HI!!!

I am 33 years old from Irvine, California and I have just recieved my

Surgery date of May 4th..and I am freaking out!!!

I have been *lurching* around this website for the last two years

getting ready - and I must say that everyone on this website is soo

supportive....with such GREAT knowledge....THANK YOU!!

My story started over 20 years ago when My dentist referred my mom to

the Ortho for what seemed to be abnormal lower jaw growth. Back then,

My ortho indicated that I was too young - needed to stop growing

etc...

When I went back at the age of 19 - My ortho went through my

diagnosis and my father was a little freaked out...my problem was not

my lower jaw - rather my upper jaw was WAY too samll for my bite

along with my lower jaw and chin protruding. The moment that the

Ortho indicated that I needed to have my upper removed and pulled

forward...My father ruled the whole procedure out. I think it scared

him...so here I am - a mature adult, deciding to have this surgery to

correct my " skeletal deformity " ....

I have a Class III underbite with a protruding chin and a small upper

jaw that will be moved forward...I don't have the measurements of

movement yet but my doctor and I have our *predicitons* meeting next

monday where I imagine he will review everything with me.

Based on some of the pictures posted, I don't think I have seen as

severe a problem as mine, But I will have you all be the judge of

that - I will post my befores and afters once I have the surgery.

I have a great ortho ( I have had my braces on for two years) and a

great oral surgeon. Although I do feel a little in the dark about

what is actually going to happen during the surgery - I guess that is

what my next appointment will review.

Everyone's posts have been so great - especially in the " what to

expect " topic conversation. I am totally worried about nausia being

banded, I am worried about numbness, and I am also worried about my

after look - what my profile will look like - my smile, etc.

The great thing is that I have a whole bunch of people (via this

website) that are going through the same thing as I - and I could not

be more thankful for the support!

Thank you!!!

Friend -- Nausea is the least of the worries for you. (Not to suggest

that anything else is a biggie, but nausea is easily managed in a

hospital setting. You will have, if you obey instructions, only

liquids inside you. Nurses and oher caretakers can do suction to help

clean up. No. you don't want to whooops your cookies if you can't

clean up, or if you're likely to aspirate what comes up. BUT HEY --

YOU WILL BE IN THE HOSPITAL! and they'll know how to help you! AND,

there are splendid drugs that can help. Ho-kay???) Do tell your doc

that you're worried about this, though. There are drugs (including

but not limited to, injections of Gravol, and suppositories of

Phenergan) that can resolve this one in a hurry.

Skeletal deformity? Yep. I had (have???) one that was corrected.

That's a label. Leave it in your past. You won't have such, post-op.

Who cares whether your jaws didn't work? The important thing is that

you and your family are getting the balances right, to serve you best.

Don't let papa's troubles scare you, either. Actually, you and your

surgeon may help him understand that this is not something he did to

you, just a problem that needs fixing. I hope so. Because I believe

that's the truth...

But hey -- you don't wanna be " *lurching* " anywhere. that suggests an

unbalanced gait, which I have, for some other complicated reasons.

*Lurking* without posting, on the other hand, is just fine, if it

helps, although you'll find better friendship if you'll come and tell

us about you, too! :~) Welcome...

Cammie

Hi Malu,

My problem is very similar to yours, I will also have my upper jaw

advanced and my lower pushed back, mine is minimal. Upper will be

moved 5mm and lower 3mm, I'm hoping for a May surgery date as well.

I'll know next week.
