They've finally said it should actually be upside down, but what they still fail to realize is that one size does not fit all. in NJ
Guest guest
Flo: first of all, your cardiac health must come before your midriff (reaching goal weight). But, bacon is said to have potassium, as I recall, and that is Atkins-friendly. Also, you can get an Rx for K-Tabs,10 mEq of potassium, dosage=one/day. I have taken them in the past, but now I take potassium citrate tablets to ward off uric acid kidney stones, so I get more than enough (60 mEq/day) potassium that way. --Steve At 8:26 PM -0800 1/1/03, Florence Skiadas wrote: >what can I eat on the atkins induction that will provide me enough potassium? But I know there are docs on this list (and nutritionists) who recommend you NOT supplement unless under instructions to do so by a doctor. Seems like a LOT of potassium......... Carol A
Guest guest
<< Question up front: what can I eat on the atkins induction that will provide me enough potassium? Half an avocado is low, salmon is ok, a beef hot dog, spinach, macadamias? There are a lot of choices, and not all high in carbs. Potassium Rich FoodsFOODPotassium Mgs.Carb grams 1 med. Guest guest
Well, that nice table laid out really badly in text format, so I'm gonna give it another shot, and the URL. http://members.tripod com/~Dietman2/potash.html Potassium Rich FoodsFOODPotassium Mgs.Carb grams 1 med. Guest guest
http://members.tripod.com/~Dietman2/potash.html Ok, so the table still didn't lay out right, but if you want to see a list of potassium-rich foods with their carb values as well, use the above URL to get there. Sorry about that -- my cutter-&-paster doesn't work with text email. sigh... Fay, how long have you been on induction now? I understand it's supposed to last 2 weeks to a month, but it seems like you're still there after a long time. I don't think even Atkins himself recommends going this low on carbs for a long period like that. If you can't even have normal food that grows in the trees because of its carb values, I don't know, somehow that doesn't seem right. And I've read Atkins (New Diet Revolution), so I do understand how it's supposed to work. I know it didn't work for me, and compromised my health badly. Everyone's mileage varies, tho. ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
Question up front: what can I eat on the atkins induction that will provide me enough potassium? OR is there a supplement I can take? I went to visit my relatives for Thanksgiving and all went very well. My sister in law is a nutrition freak and kept nailing me about my nutrition levels and would NOT listen to me. She finally asked me what I was doing for potassium on the Atkins Induction, I had no ammunition so she hit me with half a banana, potatoes, and something called the Diabetes diet that Kaiser puts out... she even told me that nutrisystems puts out meals for folks that have had the surgery. I cringed and let her talk to me like I am an idiot but could not get through to her. I have an irregular heart beat when I take in caffeine and carbs, SHE sat there and blamed it on potassium! I have had this problem since about 1993 and I dang well KNOW it's not potassium deficiency by now!!! I cant get over how wrapped up folks are in their own notions of what is right for everyone else that have never had this surgery. Meanwhile I am 10lbs heavier and not feeling too good about myself. Definitely can not take in half a banana or anything else until I get to my goal which is looking pretty hopeless at this moment. appreciate any help I can get here, thanks hugzzz flo
