Schedule for June

Hello all,

For those who remember me, I was scheduled for October 2003, but then, the =

surgeon

never called me. After several months of waiting (for nothing, in the end)=

and calling him,

he finally told me to find a new surgeon. Which I did. Strange, as he was=

n't «man

enough» to talk to me, he asked the receptionist to call me.

I met with her yesterday and she agreed to have me as one of her patients. =

I'm schedule

for beginning of June. There's an opening in May, but she's not sure I'd b=

e able to make it

in time, as the hospital is quite busy this time of the year (pre op tests =

might take time).

I'm gonna have the full kit (she didn't use the medical terms, so I can't r=

emember them).

That is, the upper jaw to be moved down and forward, lower jaw to be moved =

forward,

chin to be cut, and perhaps remove a piece of bone from my hip to be grafte=

d to help the

upper jaw. Also, she agreed on removing my wisdom teeth removed while doin=

g the rest.

So instead of having two seperate surgeries, and being further delayed, I w=

ill only have

one! That's a relief !!

I've lost 8 months in total, for no reason. I was a little (ok, a lot!) ha=

ngry but then, it

serves no purposes to be mad at someone. The main reason I was mad at him =

is because

by waiting that long, my teeth moved too much (I wasn't aware I had to visi=

t the ortho even

though I had the retainer wire installed). But now, it's being taken care =

of. My treatment

should be completed in July 2005.

So, count me in for June this year!

Johanne,

I tried to visit Dr Morin, but since he's with the other one, he refused to take

me as one of

his patient as well... I must have made a really bad impression ;-)

No, seriously, I understand that sometimes, people just don't connect. It just

happened to

fall on me. That's all!

This new surgeon, Dr Faucher, is just fantastically calming. I think we're

gonna do a great

team together (I feel I'm part of this, in a sense).

So, how's your recovery doing?

Hi Ray!

I'm doing great. Thanks for asking :)

I still can't eat whatever I want (I still have trouble moving my jaw

left to right which makes chewing difficult), but I can eat most

things I could pre-op. Numbness is all gone - except for my chin, but

that often takes longer. Dr. Morin, my ortho and my perio are very

happy with the results. And so am I. My ortho teaches at McGill and

he's been showing his students pictures of me and all my treatments

and he was very excited to be able to show them pics of how I look

post-op.

Oh, and by the way, I just got back from having coffee with Marlaine

and she's doing great also.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait :)

All the best!

Thank you Johanne for the info on Marlaine as well, I was to ask about her.

My ortho is desperate for me to get the surgery, he's anxious to show the

results as well,

because he said I'm one of the most complicated case he's done in years (don't

know if I

should like the feeling or not... haha!)

My surgeon warned me about the possible numbness and insisted that, as per my

current

mouth configuration, I have a good chance or having a permanent numb spot in the

chin.

But, well... If I can eat properly after that, who cares ?!?

Ray

P.S. Once I get the surgery, can I join your little coffee duo ? (just kidding)

:)

Hi Ray!

Yeah, a lot of doctors get excited about complicated cases (I guess

they love the challenge), but it's not the best thing when you're the

complicated case :)

Even if the numbness in my chin never went away, I still wouldn't

regret anything. It's not a big deal when you consider all the

advantages.

Sure you can come and complain about orthognathic surgery with us

over coffee :)

Happy Easter!

Warning: the next comment might look silly...

I don't care a lot about the numbness in the chin (or the loss of sensation)

because, each

morning that I shave and cut my skin, I need to apply some sort of white stuff

to stop the

bleeding (because I bleed a lot) and.... IT HURTS LIKE HELL!! :-) So, no

sensation, no

burning...

I realize this is far from an intelligent comment. I'm trying to rationalize

this whole thing.

But I'm sure everything will be ok. I have much more (if not all) confidence in

my new

surgeon. And, well, if things go wrong, I know help will be available (she said

so herself).

Ray

P.S. Thanks for the coffee thing, I will surely contact you!

(delurking)

Hey Ray, great to hear from you! I'm glad that things are looking up

for you. And you're more than welcome to join us over coffee.

I'm mostly lurking now that most of the mouth-work is done. Don't

worry about the rationalization thing... Staying positive is the

key! I'm still numb in the upper gums, and I think it might be

permanent, but it makes flossing so much easier ie less painful!

My email is marlaine.villeneuve@..., if you want to

contact me. Take care!
