Which Surgery should be first?

Hi Everyone, I am new here and want to get my lower jaw moved back.

But I am wondering... I may be getting bariatric surgery

(considering it) and if I do wich surgery should be first? The

reason I ask is because you have less nutrition absorption after the

bariatric surgery, but I am wondering if anyone here has had both

surgeries and has any advice for me... or can they be done at the

same time? Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about getting your stomach stapled? I'm no doctor,

and you should probably get the opinion of your General Practitioner

and whoever is doing your bariatric surgery. My educated guess is

that you will need every defense at your disposal to heal from the

orthognathic surgery, including the ability to take in nutrients

even with limited eating ability.

That said, if you haven't even started treatment yet, you might have

two years of orthodontics ahead of you first. That's plenty of time

to heal from other surgery. If you only have six months of ortho

work, you might want to consider putting off the bariatric.

Your best advisors are the doctors who know all of your conditions.

You need, I think, some major discussions with your caregivers on

these points.

I would suspect that it would be better to do the jaw procedures

first, as you will need all the nutrition you can get to help in the

healing process. But I'm no doc.

The bariatric surgery, best I understand it, limits what you can get,

in the way of nutrition, majorly. And you do not, I believe, want

that while your intake of food is also mechanically limited.

But ask your docs. They're your best experts.

Would it offend you if I also suggested some counseling, before you

take on these two big hurdles? That's a lot of major changes to be

putting your body through, all at once...
