Guest guest
Hi there, I just wanted to say this group has been so helpful. Whenever I feel paranoid about something, I put up a post and always get replies that are very helpful! Now I have a couple more.... If anyone has any experiences w/ either of these or has any advice, I would definitely love to hear it. First, I am about 16 days post-op and freaking out about my nose! I know I've read posts in the past about how everyone notices a little pugging and widening because of the swelling, but I was wondering how much of the time this is permanent. I had a very narrow nose before surgery and I have noticed it is much wider and upturned than before. I only had upper jaw surgery for an open bite - has anyone had the same and noticed permanent nose issues? I know this is still early in the recovery process, but every time I look in the mirror I just see this big nose and I am really hoping it will not be forever. My other problem right now is dizzyness. I feel really great, but whenever I lie down, the room starts spinning. When I get up, it spins again. It's only when I move from being upright to horizontal positions. Is this normal? I'm seeing my surgeon in about a week so I will consult him, but just wanted to check in the interim. Again, thank you so much for all your help these weeks - I really appreciate the replies! I hope you are all well, Meredith
Guest guest
Hi Meredith -- I'm only a tiny bit of help, but for what it's worth... I remember in the video the doctor had me watch it mentioned something about the upturned nose. And I think I've come across this on other sites too. Can't remember the details on it, but you are not alone. Mine is wider at the moment too and my impression is that is from the swelling. Being numb isn't helping. Just makes it feel even MORE weird! My nose was already a bit upturned anyway (family trait) so I don't notice mine so much. On the dizzyness thing-- I get a little dizzy the same way. My doctor warned me about it and said to go slow. He didn't explain further but I would guess it is because the sinuses connect w/ the ears, which affects balance etc. Hope this helps... Guest guest
There's an explanation of the nose tilting thing at www.geocities.com/orthognathic info. Look under " Recovery FAQs. " I'm having the same issue right now (almost 3 weeks post upper/lower). My nose has been swollen and turned up. When I got up this morning, though, I saw the funniest thing so far. The left side of my face has been more swollen than the right, and the swelling on the right has gone down more quickly. This morning, the left side of my nose was still turned up and the right had returned to it's normal shape. Now I look really strange! But, it did reassure me and hopefully " conconw " that the condition is temporary. If one side is back to normal, I'm sure the other side will get there. For now, I guess I'll just act like I'm scratching my nose a lot when I go out in public so I won't get strange looks.... > > Hi there, > > > > I just wanted to say this group has been so helpful.
