Guest guest
Hi Itzik, There is promising research happening now but as none of us here are researchers we have no way to estimate how long it will take to cure MSA. First, researchers need to understand the CAUSE of MSA. They are closer to this than ever before. The current theory is that the brain cell death in MSA is caused by the misfolding of a protein called alpha-synuclein. In the USA, researchers such as Dr. Virginia Lee, Dr. Trojanowski and Dr. Bonini are currently working on developing animal models such as fruitflies and mice which have similar defects in their alpha-synuclein protein. In Europe, Dr. Philipp Kahle from Germany has just developed a mouse with Multiple System Atrophy. In Austria, Dr. Gregor Wenning has been studying a rat model of Multiple System Atrophy. These animal models are very important to increasing the understanding of Multiple System Atrophy. Any drugs or surgical treatments that are developed in future would first be tested in these animal models. As you live in Israel, I suggest you contact the European MSA Study Group to find out if your father could participate in any MSA research studies occurring in Europe. http://www.emsa-sg.org/ There is information in your language at: http://www.emsa-sg.org/patient/isl/index.htm Regards, Pam CURE > Hello everybody, > > I wonder if there is an estimation of the period of > time > that will pass, untill that cure for MSA will be found > ? > > i know that there are researchs and studies, > but can anyone estimate how many years it will take ? > > Thank you.
