Guest guest
Hi Connie, I checked out your sites you sent. I did find out a lot of stuff, but I want to double check what he said on some of them. But most of it made sense to me? Thank you for semdimg them my way. Guest guest
Hi Lu :-) (I've replied two other times to this post but it doesn't seem to ever appear....I'll try one more time before I throw my computer out the window! :-) <<<<< >>>>>> Hi Lu :-) You're very welcome.....yes, what Dr. Mercola has to say pretty much goes against the grain of many mainstream treatments for rheumatic diseases, but more and more docs who do decide to venture out on these avenues are pleasantly surprised that it works (but they have to use the correct protocol, as described by Mercola and others. Sometimes, doctors try the antibiotic treatment, but not according to the established protocol, and find less than optimal results. This leads them to believe that the treatment does not work, while in fact, there is much success in the treatment.) The whole idea of using antibiotics to treat rheumatic diseases, while several years ago was vehemently opposed by the vast medical community, is slowly finding support and success. Dr. Mercola furthers the issue by promoting diet as an invaluable tool, as well. (I quickly admit that I fail miserably on the diet issue, and Mercola would probably hang me :-) but thankfully, I'm doing well in spite of my diet. It would probably do me a world of good, however, if I would clean up my diet....just on general principles.) I don't know much about the NST treatment that he mentions, but it has piqued my curiosity. My local internist started me on the antibiotic protocol over three years ago for another rheumatic disease called dermatomyositis (DM). A couple of years later, an ENT suggested that I might also have RP. At this point....I may never know for sure, as the antibiotic treatment has my DM so well under control, and almost eliminated. The symptoms of cough, ear pain, throat manifestations, etc. are much improved and may well be either DM or RP. One thing that really got my interest was the fact that Dr. Trentham sometimes advocates the use of the antibiotic Minocin in treating RP. To me, this is a huge factor. Through the rheumatic group I have come to realize that Dr. Trentham has a long involvement with the development of antibiotics for rheumatic disease. He usually only uses Minocin and not the other abx such as Zithromax and Biaxin, but has admitted the reason for this is to remain " mainstream " with his Harvard contemporaries. Anyway.......Lu :-) again, I've rambled on. The main point is that Mercola is speaking out and I'm very glad that he has for my health is in a lot better shape because of his convictions. If you need to ask any questions, please do so. You guys in this group are all very important to me. I've seen his treatment work, not only for me, but for many many others I've met both online and in person. Although I've never met an RP person who has adopted the antibiotic protocol for a long length of time, I have a strong suspicion that the protocol would be helpful there, as well. That's why I keep hanging around :-) Take care and lots of hugs, Connie > Hi Connie, > I checked out your sites you sent. Guest guest
Connie, Do you agree with everything on this diet. Some of the things I find very strange and others I totally agree with. W
Guest guest
I don't know, :-) Tell me which of Mercola's comments that you find strange or the strangest anyway. I do know that even in the rheumatic group (known for more " on the fringe " treatments at times), there are a variety of people with varying levels of agreement with Mercola. All in all, I get the feeling that he is very sincere and passionate in what he preaches. He even makes his patients agree to adopt his diet recommendations before he will agree to treat them! (I'd flunk right there ;-) I do feel that he is 100% legitimate, with a real medical practice up there in Schaumberg, Illinois. I do think his feelings on the antibiotic protocol are right in line with other doctors who use it on a regular basis....so in that respect, he's in line with his comtemporaries. Hope we can talk some more about all of this " stuff " :-) Take care, Connie H. > Connie, > Do you agree with everything on this diet. Guest guest
Hi Connie, Do you know the reason he says to avoid carrots and underground veggies? Drinking water at room temperature instead of iced or chilled? Skim milk? I always buy that. I know it's better that regular milk, because it's lower in fat content. a.. No need for children to drink any milk after age of 2 years --do you know why? b.. Why does he say to avoid bananas and oranges? c.. A lot of what he writes sounds great to me. I just didn't understand the reasoning behind these particular ones and was hoping you could help. d.. Thanks for these links. It's always great to learn new things that will help RP. e.. Guest guest
Hi :-) Somewhere, buried in his website is the expanded version explaining why he recommends a particluar food, or way of doing things. I think it's at: http://www.mercola.com/forms/wellness_condensed.htm and I think, if you use his search option you can type in words like milk, water, or whatever. (also try arthritis, too) Here's what I found on your particular questions: > Do you know the reason he says to avoid carrots and underground veggies? " Not all vegetables are created equal. Avoid iceberg lettuce as it has minimal nutritional value: kale, Swiss chard and collards, and spinach are better options. You may want to steam the stems separately from the leaves because they require longer cooking time. Carrots are high in sugar and generally should be limited. Dandelion greens, green and red cabbage, broccoli, red and green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, endive, Chinese cabbage, bok Choy, fennel, celery, cucumbers, cauliflower, escarole, zucchini, brussel sprouts, collard greens, kale, kohlrabi, and parsley are also good choices. The greener the vegetable, the more good chlorophyll nutrition is present. " I think the sugar factor is the reason he says to avoid carrots and underground veggies, . I don't think he argues that they don't have nutritive value, but that there are better choices. > Drinking water at room temperature instead of iced or chilled? , I can't find the place where he describes why he recommends room temp water. I remember reading it somewhere, though....something about the stomach being able to deliver it to the body better if its at room temp (probably the closer to body temp, the better...but who wants to drink 98.6 degree water? :-) > Skim milk? I always buy that. I know it's better that regular milk, because it's lower in fat content. read his link at: http://www.mercola.com/article/milk/no_milk.htm > a.. No need for children to drink any milk after age of 2 years -- do you know why? Again, it's mentioned on the above site. It mostly has to do with allergies and the hormones and stuff that are fed to the cows. > b.. Why does he say to avoid bananas and oranges? on that same site: " 11. No Bananas /Oranges It would be best to avoid oranges, and bananas. There is 300% more potassium in dark green vegetables such as kale than there is in bananas. Bananas also have concentrated sugar levels. Local fruits like apples, plums, and strawberries would be better. However, be careful and do not have more than three servings of fruit per day. Also avoid dried fruits, especially raisins. The best time to eat the fruit would be before bed, as it would help increase the amount of tryptophan crossing the blood brain barrier which will increase serotonin levels and improve any depressive tendencies " > c.. A lot of what he writes sounds great to me. I just didn't understand the reasoning behind these particular ones and was hoping you could help. You're not alone, . I think a lot of people wonder if he's off his rocker LOL, but when we look at his reasoning, there is cause to re-think our dietary habits. > d.. Thanks for these links. It's always great to learn new things that will help RP. > e.. You're welcome :-) Hope it helps. Hey, maybe we all could really try this for two weeks and see......then we could contact him? Take care and lots of hugs, Connie
Guest guest
Connie, You're a wealth of information. Thanks for looking all that up for me.
