Kirsten:

I almost five weeks post-op and the rubber bands my OS gave me were

slightly larger then the ones from the ortho. I assume you will be wearing your

bands as long your " recovery " is scheduled for. I have another seven weeks of

recovery ahead for myself. I had a bone graft and upper and lower done, that's

why mine was so long, though others may experience longer recovery periods.

If were you able to speak and eat normally with the bands from the ortho, then

you should have no problems with the ones from OS. But that all depends on

where the OS places the bands, it will probably different then where the ortho

places them. good luck

hi im 5 days post op and i get my wires off in a week! i have to have

rubberbands on after i get the wires off but i was just wondering

what are the rubberbands are they on like all of ur teeth or kind of

just like the ones you get from your orthodontist? is it hard to talk

with them on? also i will probably find this all out when i go see my

OS but how long do you usually have to keep the rubberbands on. after

i get my wires off will it be hard to eat?

It varies from one doc (and one patient) to another.

I was neither wired nor banded at first. But when I developed some

pain in the jaw, a couple of weeks or so post op, my surgeon put on

some extra wires and popped two little elastics (just like the ones

my ortho uses, except littler and more powerful) in place, right up

front, and the pain went away in 15 minutes.

I wore one configuration or another, of lighter or stronger, and of

bigger or smaller elastics for the rest of my time in wires and

brackets, which was from July to October or so. but never so tightly

that I could not speak. That is not everyone's experience...
