Guest guest
Hello All, Just curious to know what supplies everyone has been given by the hospital upon returning home after surgery. I'm from Canada so it would cost quite a bit to buy some Zip N Squeeze bags with the exchange rate and shipping and what not. Does the hospital usually give you any jaw wraps, syringes, squeeze bottles, etc? Thanks for any input, I'm trying to get very prepared for my surgery in exactly 3 weeks!! woohooo Kirstin
Guest guest
Well, down here the hospital doesn't exactly " give " you anything. But they do have a quite amazing bundle of stuff for you to take home. There were several syringes in different sizes. Lots of tubing. there were lots of bandages I never needed. There was a flashlight (go figure...) There was a " suture removal kit " -- I had the sutures removed a week later in my surgeon's office. (Three long-time surgeons operating an office in which they cut out wizzies etc., and they need ME to bring them a little pair of scissors and two band- aids???) Wire snips, although I was neither wired nor banded. As for jaw wraps, yes, I went home wearing an ice pack. But it dripped, and the ribbons that tied it over my head kept slipping. For me, the Velcro jaw wrap (at about $9 U.S., best I remember, or maybe it was $18) was well worth the money. There were also some things I never actually figured out what they were. Better too much than too little, though. Guest guest
Thanks Cammie and , Hopefully I'll get to take home some nifty things like that to help me out post-op! They seem to be stingy with those types of things, however, since i'm in N.S. Canada and Medicare pays for the surgery. They say I'll be in hospital between 5 and 7 days but with all the cutbacks I betcha I'll be sharing a bed with a stranger in a room with 30 other patients and I'll be sent home the next morning! Only kidding, it's not THAT bad here, thank goodness for private insurance so I'll get a semi-private room. Kirstin
