Guest guest
I've been extremely nauseaous since last Sunday when I fell down the stairs. I only vomited that night into the morning and then that basically subsided. I was diagnosed with a concussion among other things. However, should I still be feeling this sick to my stomach from the concussion? I was going to talk to my gastro docs this week, but we were dealing with the loss of one of the doctor's wives in a car accident that left us all shocked and saddened beyond belief and I kind of just pushed it aside to attend to the services and such. The funeral was yesterday and I just couldn't bother them with this. Today it seemed to be better, but as the day wore on it became progressively worse again and I now feel like I may vomit. I will call them in the morning, but was just wondering if I should let it ride because it may be due to the concussion. If so, how long does something like this last? Thanks. Guest guest
Regina, the naseau could be from the concussion. If I remember correctly, a concussion is a skull fracture. It generally takes 6 to 8 weeks for a fracture to heal. So if we follow that logic, you could still be suffering consequences from the injury. I am so sorry you are going through all of this. When it rains it pours. Or, in you case, when it snows it freezes. I would play it safe and call the surgeons office as well as your PCP. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. Guest guest
Hi Regina............it certainly could be from the concussion. A concussion occurs when we slam the brain against the skull and it breaks the " fibers " that connect the skull and brain. My doc explained that headaches and nausea can last for several days or more! I was also wondering if it could maybe be any pain meds that they gave you?? P. Guest guest
Hey : I haven't taken anything stronger than Tylenol since Monday. They gave me Vicodin which I've never had a problem with before, so don't think it would be that. Thankfully, I really haven't had much in the way of headaches either, which I am so thankful for. That month and a half long migraine a few months ago really did me in. Not feeling that well right now. Will call the gastro docs in the morning to get their take on this. Otherwise, I'm feeling ok, just extremely queasy. Blech. Thanks for the suggestions. Regina nancy pugliese wrote: > Hi Regina............it certainly could be from the concussion. Guest guest
Hi Regina, We happened to have discussed this in my Sports Injuries class last night! Symptoms from a concussion can last as little as a day or as long as 6 months... it is very important that you report these symptoms to your doctor, as they may need to check for more serious damage to your noggin. Symptoms can include: blurred vision nausea dizziness sleep disturbance headache (really?!) confusion, etc etc etc Hang in there grrlie and take care of yourself. I'm about to buy you one of those really big moon helmets like the little kids wear on bikes Also, it's really really really important that you not do anything to jar your noggin until your symptoms are completely gone. So, no contact sports! *grin* http://www.eradain.com/apoplexy Have a question I've been extremely nauseaous since last Sunday when I fell down the stairs. Guest guest
> We happened to have discussed this in my Sports Injuries class last night! > Symptoms from a concussion can last as little as a day or as long as 6 > months... : Thanks for the info. Spoke with my docs this morning and they sent me for another CT to make sure that there is nothing going on in there ( again, no comment). Told them I've been having intermittent blurred vision in my right eye over the past few days. My eye was blood shot and for a day or two thought that I may be developing pink eye, but the redness went away and am still getting the intermittent blurriness. Told me that if anything happens over the weekend to call him at home and will put me back in for observation. Like I said, with the exception of the nausea, I've been feeling much better. He wasn't overly thrilled with what I told him, but didn't seem to be overly concerned either. Just told me to call him over the weekend. We're supposed to get together on Sunday anyway, so we'll see. Thanks again for the info. The thought of a queasy stomach for six months does not thrill me in the least. However, if that's all it is, then can absolutely deal with that. Regina
