Guest guest
Hello! I'm new here and my lower jaw surgery is schedule for May 5th. I have a few questions from you guys who have been through this. I will be wired shut for 4 weeks what should I drink, any recommendations. How much weight will I lose? How much pain will I be in? How quick will I recover? I know that my OS will answer these question but I also want to know from people who had this done themselves. Thank you, Lowisa
Guest guest
Hi Lowisa, I just had my lower jaw done last week im 8 days post op and 5 days until these wires come off! but anyways For me there was hardly any pain at all. The worst part I thought is just being wired shut and not being able to talk or eat. its really fusterating! It all depends on how quick you will recover. I already feel fine and i have been out doing normal everyday things. Theres still some swelling but most has gone down and theres hardly any numbness left just a spot in my chin. The first couple of days after surgery are the worst but after that everything gets better. I have lost about 3 pounds since my surgery. you will probably lose some more being wired shut for 4 weeks. Oh and to drink dont buy lots of ensure and stuff like that because it gets old real fast! just try smoothies and milkshakes anything really! well i dont think i helped much, but good luck with everything! Guest guest
Hi Lowisa- I'm having lower jaw surgery on May 4th. From what I've read on this website, the recovery for lower is faster than if you have upper & lower. I will be wired shut for 4 weeks, too. I'll keep you posted on my progress...keep me posted on yours! Take care. lowisa no_reply > wrote: Hello! I'm new here and my lower jaw surgery is schedule for May 5th. I am 3 weeks post-op today!!! I never did get my mouth wired shut at all. I had a splint placed on my upper jaw but i had it removed on Wed April 14th, 2004. I am at work right now. I feel great. I had hardly any pain just was really uncomfortable at the hospital. I had my head wrapped just like extreme makeover for the first 24hrs. That was uncomfortable. Once that came off I was fine. My jaw gets sore at night for talking all day, but thats about it. There really is no pain involved in this process, you don't feel the surgery procedure at all. Just the uncomfort of the swelling and the appliances in your mouth. I hope this helps somewhat, good luck with everything!! > > > > > --------------------------------- >
