Guest guest
Before my husband even came home from the Rehabilitation Institute after his heart attack, a County service agency had built a wheelchair ramp for us! My daughter had the connection, as she works for the County of Santa Barbara. It was only a few hundred dollars, and I think that it was payable in installments. The fee is based on income, etc., but it was a wonderful service. Have you called the local service agencies? Elaine Grimmesey
Guest guest
You said that you never backed Charlotte down the step. The teeny tiny aide who came today said that she has done it. . Good grief. The aide who did do it made it look easy. I am still in a quandary about the ramp because of the closet in the entrance. Will do some more thinking. We have room for an 8 foot ramp. Maybe I could cut the door to the closet--I could step over into the closet. I am going to look on line for ramps, and the physical therapist is going to bring some information tomorrow. Thanks to you for the help--and to all the others too--I may not mention everyone's name. Lou R.
Guest guest
lou, I did go down the 5 " steps often, but I am much stronger than you, I am sure. However an 8 inch step would be much more of a problem than a 5 inch step. I can not picture the problem with the closet and step. Does the door to the closet open where you would need the ramp? If so could you replace the door with a folding door? Take care, Bill Werre

Guest guest
I know rehab in Salem has names of people who build ramps. I would think your area rehab hospital would have that information. They could come and look at the situation and tell you the best way to deal with the problem. Guest guest
, Taking the door off is fine if that solves the problem and doesn't make new privacy problems. You can always hang a sheet over the door for privacy too. Take care, Bill Werre --------------------------- nancymullen wrote: > i DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS GOOD FOR U, BUT WE HAVE TAKEN THE DOORS OFF THE > HINGES WHEN THEY GOT IN THE WAY. Guest guest
Hi. We live in the country. I don't close the doors because a fall would leave me blocking the door. I am laughing at myself, because I could just vision me trying to push the sheet and walking thru a doorway at the same time. Thgt of a shower rod with a shower curtain at one time and then thgt. forget more wash for the aides to complain about. nancy m.
