i had my lower jaw moved back and my upper jaw tilted forward to

close off an anterior open bite. my surgery was 4 1/2 weeks ago and

i'm already very pleased with the results. i have felt very self

conscious of my chin for a long time and i hated my profile... i felt

like it made me look constantly angry or something. lol! now i have

a cute little chin, and the more my swelling goes down, the more

pleased i am.

i have had to be wired shut the full time and i have a week and a

half to go. my OS is one of the few who still wires for the full six

weeks. its been trying and frustrating at times, but i'm getting

through it.

i won't know what affects the surgery will have on my TMJ problems, i

also used to grind my teeth at night so we'll see if that fixed it.

but so far, aesthetically, i have no regrets. i think that even if i

still have a struggle with TMJ on some level, that i will still be

glad that my jaws are line up the way they should be now.

by the way, even though i am still wired shut, i feel pretty normal.

i went back to work 9 days after surgery. i get run down sometimes

and sore if i over exert myself, but overall i feel pretty good.

hope that helps!

I would say that I'm definitely happy with the result, now that I'm

roughly five years out. My orthodontist suspected I may have been

prone to relapse, though that's not really been the case.

I was wired shut for 4 weeks and rubber-banded shut for 2 weeks

following that, and if they expect a relapse, more than likely

they're going to fit you with retainers and rubber bands to wear at

night.

Hope this helps!

Hi, regarding your remarks about negative stories, I think it's

because of a couple of reasons:

People who have had a great recovery are reluctant to post when there

are others who are miserable. I had a really quick & easy recovery,

but I posted anyways, to try to give some balanced perspective.

People that had a more difficult time and reovery need more support

and tend to hang around longer on the sites. There are some of us who

had easy recoveries and good results who stick around, again to try

to give some balanced perspective.

Check out some of the positive experiences on this info website at

http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo/ - click on PERSONAL

SURGERY EXPERIENCES.

Hope that helps,
