Guest guest
Hello, I am new here and am considering bimaxillary advancement (MMA)for obstructive sleep apnea. I would like to hear from anyone else who has had this done for sleep apnea. Particularly, I would like to know how it worked for you and if it was worth it. Also, I am interested in finding out if you had the Genio-Glossus Advancement done at the same time, prior to, or after the MMA. (I am trying to figure out if the MMA can be successful by itself, or if the GA needs to be done as well.) Thanks for your input!
Guest guest
Hi, a quick search for sleep apnea using the archive function will help. Try looking at message #75311 - this person had surgery for sleep apnea, I think she's still a relatively current member, so you might try posting your message in her direction. I tried to go back further in the posts to see messages posted by sorejuel (Sue) whose daughter had surgery for OSA about 2 years ago, but couldn't find any specific posts. I do know her daughter doesn't have to use the C-PAP machine anymore, so surgery was successful. Hope that helps, > Hello, > > I am new here and am considering bimaxillary advancement (MMA)for > obstructive sleep apnea. Guest guest
Hello , I had the surgery for sleep apnea. I had the upper moved forward 6mm (and up some), the lower forward, the genio and they also did Somnoplasty to the base of the tongue to reduce the mass of it. My lower jaw was very receded and the ENT doc that I first went to did not think that any kind of laser soft palate procedure or CPAP would help me. So he sent me to the oral surgeon. As for the results, as soon as I was recovered my husband reported clear, deep breathing, no snoring at all. My daytime symptoms are much improved also. Regarding the genio, it helps to pull the tongue muscle forward keeping it from blodking the airway. If you are have the MMA done, the genio would not add any real pain or slowing of the recovery period. Has your doctor said he thinks it would be best to do it? Mine felt he would not be doing everything he could to help me if he didn't do " the works " on me. Good Luck on you decision. I am happy to answer any questions you have. a > Hello, > > I am new here and am considering bimaxillary advancement (MMA)for > obstructive sleep apnea.
