Guest guest Posted December 6, 2002 Report Share Posted December 6, 2002 I talked with the nurse today. Doc is going to put me on Niferex twice a day. How are side effects from that one? Constipation? Tar poops? Bad smell? :-) I live for bad smells! I'm glad that I'm watching my own numbers, because no one else is. Several years ago when I joined this group, Vitalady strongly suggested that we always ask for copies of our labs, and that we track our own numbers. I am very grateful for that advice, because had I not followed those instructions, things would probably be getting even worse. The doc only looks at today's results. taught me to compare to prior years and note downward trends. A low number might be acceptable under some circumstances, but for example, my iron went from 6 last year to 3 this year, and the doc was trying to tell me to just add one more iron pill. I pointed out this downward trend, and the doc is now doing what you all said should be done - prescription iron. I may be quiet at times, but it's good to have you all. I'm looking forward to this new iron adventure . . . will I have fun in public bathrooms? :-) Judy in the Windy City PS Vicki.... when you give me my new job, I won't be needing a private bathroom, it's more fun sharing the public bathroom! LOL Actually, I've been constipated since my original RNY, and all those bad symptoms, as well as bad tummy pains came from those awful OTC iron pills, so I just stopped taking them. Then, a year later, when Dr. Gagner did my trasection, he prescribed the Niferex Forte, told me it wouldn't make me sick or constipated (well, no more than I already was), and he was right!
