Has there been anyone that you know that had the lower jaw advance

forward and had the surgery screws break. I realize they are not

perfect and that's why they wire your mouth shut.

I've never heard of a screw breaking, although I have heard of one

instance of a plate breaking. I have heard of a screw working its way

out of the bone. I do not remember whether these were with a lower

advancement, though. I'm inclined to think both instances were with

someone who had work on both jaws.

I think a titanium screw would break your jaw before it would break

itself. You have your jaw wired not because the screws aren't

perfect but for a variety of reasons.

Most of us even if you aren't wired post op you were wired in

surgery, for some the wires are kept on after. But I am no md.

I'm the one that the plate broke on one side and a screw worked its

way out of the bone on the other side.

I only had BSSO/lower advancement. I was also wired.

Jane, I knew it was you, but could not remember the details of your

procedure. Sorry... I think, if I am remembering properly, that you

had several other complications affecting both your general health

and your recovery. Would you agree that the breaking of a plate or

screw (or even one working loose) is not a big concern, usually?
