Guest guest
Yes, I play and I have a beautiful Bosendorfer piano. Do you also play? My piano is often my salvation on a stressful day. Beethoven when I am feeling frustrated and Mozart when I feel like life needs to regain some order. A Chopin Waltz when I feel like flying off to somewhere else with my fingers leading the way and Brahms when I just want to relax. I think music is one of the most beautiful gifts in the world. Have a great day, Jan
Guest guest
Jan: I do not play, but I took lessons as a child. I did not want to spend the time it takes to become as good as I would enjoy. Not that I'm lazy -- it's just that I would rather spend hours on thinking and writing than on practicing the piano. So, I just enjoy hearing good performances by others, and listening to good music lessens the tedium of grading papers -- the only aspect of teaching I've disliked over the years. My grandmother played both the violin and the piano. And I had a friend, Duncan , who was a pianist, spending most of his professional career accompanying singers (playing twice in the White House). I think I was the last person for whom Bill performed before his death in 1999 at age 92; he played Dame Myra Hess' arrangement of Bach's " Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, " the piece he had played at the Yachats's Music Festival a few weeks before.
