cheese croissant after I workout.

Wow, you can drink OJ? I miss OJ a lot. I am really glad I dump, it's a good

thing, but once in a while I really miss certain things I just cannot

tolerate, and OJ is one of those.

Has anyone else who dumps noticed that liquids make you dump faster than

solids? What I mean is, if a vendor mistakenly gives me a regular Coke

instead of diet, or a few times when a coffee vendor has given me a regular

latté instead of sugar-free, I dump almost immediately. Fruit juice of any

kind does it to me in a matter of moments. But I can eat a cookie, or nibble

on candies (I've stopped doing that!) and not dump at all. Something about

liquids is really instantaneous. Does this happen to everyone, or is my

plumbing just set up that way?

Liquids always make me dump faster, I can't drink OJ, cranberry juice,

really any kind of juice without running to the bathroom lol. However I

can drink regular soda with NO problem, I don't understand that at all.

And I do have my cup of coffee every morning with 2 tsps of sugar and my

vanilla caramel liquid creamer when I drink that its for sure I can go

to the bathroom LOL keeps me pretty regular.

I haven't tried any sweet liquids since surgery so I don't know about this.

But I HAVE found something that does make me dump...big time. Honey Bunches

of O's...or Oats...or whatever it's called...it " claims " to only have 8 grams

of sugar in 3/4 of a cup....well...I was sprinkling just a few...not even 3/4

of a cup over my cheerios for additional flavor....and wham bam....sicker

than a dog time. More than once!! I think they lie about the sugar grams!!

Must be more like 18 or 28....because even if I'm puting more than half the

3/4 of a cup which I'm not...just a light sprinkle....it shouldn't be more

than 6 grams max! That stuff is poison for me! Too bad it tasted so good!

=( Isn't that always the way??

**** I haven't tried any sweet liquids since surgery

I didn't try them on purpose -- they were foisted upon me! LOL! First time

was at a drive-through latté stand while driving from San Diego to Colorado

Springs. I requested a non-fat, no-foam, decaf, sugar-free vanilla latté,

and thought that was what I had. It was early morning and I was trying hard

to get caffeinated for the long drive, so I was sipping it more quickly than

I usually would, when WHAM! I was dumping, and in my case it isn't bathroom,

it's bedroom -- when I dump I have to sleep, get all dizzy and woozy and can

t concentrate. And I have 3 kids and 2 birds in the minivan with me. DH and

I had 2-way radios, as he was in the rental van, and I just told him I've

GOT to pull over, and NOW. Once my head was clear, I told him what had

happened, and we moved on.

Second time, I worked on an Intel project, and they had an onsite latté

vendor. He had sugar-free chocolate syrup, so I ordered my usual mocha right

before a meeting. A very important meeting. 10 minutes into the meeting my

hand was wobbling right off the page where I was taking notes. My business

associate saw what was happening and knew why, and after the meeting he went

down and read the poor latté guy the Riot Act. The latté guy said he

realized he had handed me the wrong cup right after I got on the elevator,

when it was too late. He gave me free lattés for a week!

Worst time in terms of location, I was at a Renaissance Faire in August, all

in garb which is heavy and hot, and asked one of the wenches for a Diet

Pepsi. I was hot & thirsty and gulping it down when the sugar hit, and I had

to literally sit down or fall down. Fortunately my son found me a convenient

stump to land on. Ah, the wonders of post-op plumbing! LOL!

>>>But I HAVE found something that does make me dump...big time. Honey

Bunches of O's...or Oats...

Most of the cold cereals do it to me to some extent, but I can't eat any of

the ones that have Honey in their name. I think Honey somehow doesn't

register into the sugar grams in their little charts, though it's probably a

listed carb. I grabbed a few cocoa puffs off the top of my daughter's bowl

once, maybe 4 or 5 puffs, and had a noticeable wooziness going on. But then

again, I was eating cereal for quite a while and wondering why I always had

to run to the bathroom, when I finally got a clue that it was the milk, not

the cereal, that was getting me. I do oatmeal now, nearly every morning,

with no milk, just some sugar-free syrup or Splenda, and it keeps me full

until my mid-morning protein shake, and doesn't make me dump. (and there's

all that good fiber and wonderful cholesterol-fighting stuff in it that is

missing in most cereals).

I do a lot of oatmeal too - but I do it Schwartzbein style with butter and

salt - it's delish!

Her theory is that every meal should have protein, fat and GOOD carbs. So -

I could have an egg and oatmeal with butter and salt... I have to cut her

portions WAY down - but when I stick with her I get far less of those

hypoglycemic episodes.

My dad always ate oatmeal that way, and it makes me shudder to think of it.

Kinda like the way feels about coconut!

But I am curious -- I think Schwarzbein is one of the high-protein, lo-carb

diets, is that correct? What's the philosophy behind adding butter (fat) and

salt (sodium) to a food that started out healthy? I know we need some fat,

and I eat things that have fat in them, but I don't understand adding it for

its own sake. Just very curious here...

I think you are right on the Honey thing. Although I want to go on the

record as saying that I use zero sugar soy milk. I also don't do cereal on a

daily basis...but more as a treat. I have since learned what to

eliminate..and what I can have. If it tastes really good...I can figure I

will dump shortly. Doesn't much matter what the sugar grams say on the side

or back of the package. =(
