Guest guest
As a sugar/carb addict, I certainly can relate to " Today is going to be different " and then not being able to stick to it. I find it helpful when I lapse back into too many carbs, to remember that I have to take my detox very seriously... I often will use a three day weekend, and basically hole up with videos and books and spend most of the time in bed. . Sugar/carb withdrawal makes me very tired and cranky and to expect to meet my normal responsibilities of work is a set-up for failure. Because the least amount of stress or irritation leads me to a " fix " and then the cycle starts all over again, because a little fix leads me to a big fix..... I have found that if I can get through the first two or three days, then I have enuf strength to fight any cravings because I don't want to start over. But I also recognize that it takes at least five days for a full sugar detox. I also have to do lots of self talk about " one day at a time " and feeling this sh*tty won't be forever, and I will feel SO MUCH better when I'm out of the carbs. I just find that we often minimize the difficulties we experience. We tell ourselves we " should " be able to stop the carbs, but we certainly wouldn't expect someone with an alcohol or tobacco habit to detox without real struggle. We need to be kind and nurturing to ourselves during this challenging time, instead of taking a stoic, harsh stance with ourself.
