This site has been SUCH a big help, I want to make a contribution,

in case it's not already on here:

Cold medications were not recommended by the nurses for my upper jaw

post-op. They said I wouldn't find them very effective as I don't

really have a " cold " . I'm here to tell you that I found them VERY

effective. I was losing my mind just trying to breathe the first

night so I disregarded the nurse's advice and took the following

combination of drugs and was MUCH more comfortable. I could BREATHE

and can't IMAGINE how on earth anyone could sleep otherwise.

Every 4-6 hours (except when sleeping), I took the following combo:

NON-DROWSY Sudafed -- 2 tabs per directions

Robitussen DM -- 3/4 dose (I didn't need much)

4 tabs Ibuprofen -- 800 mg total

2 Tylenol extra strength

I even had a glass of wine w/ my blended dinner and it didn't bother

my tummy, nor made me drowsy.

I didn't take the Narcotics I was prescribed at all. Didn't need

them and I knew they'd make me sleepy. Only narcotics I had were

during the overnight in the hospital (Dilaudid for post-op, instead

of Morphine since I told the doctor that Morphine makes me sick to

my stomach. I should buy stock in Dilauded -- great stuff, and I

only needed an occasional half-dose!).

Dropped the Sudafed after the first week or so, then the Robitussen

a few days later. Now I'm just taking the Ibuprofen and Tylenol and

do notice a dull ache when I forget doses, which I do frequently.

Hope this helps some of you get some air --- and some sleep!!
