Jenn,

Welcome home! I am sure you will be feeling better soon. My throat hurt for a

while too. The best advice I can give you as far as eating is, chew chew

chew, and then chew some more before you swallow! I still have some days when

it feels like 'rocks' going down! It will get better though, hang in there!

Thanks Kim, I'm trying to remember that it's only been one week and I'm

going to feel like this for a little while. Can't wait for it to get better.

Jenn,

All kinds of little things (well, if you consider a week of

gut-churning gas pains " little " ) kept popping up for the first 4-6

weeks. Then, one day in week 6, it was as if someone had thrown a

switch, and things started falling into place, and I felt much more

like a well person than a recuperating post-op. Not that I am

totally free of a bit of gas or whatever, but I now feel well. My

wish for you, too, and all the new post-ops.

Hello all. I am 6 days post op and miserable. I am so swollen i feel

as if my skin is going to burst open. The pain meds don't seem to

help much. I have a horrible back ache because of the position I have

to sleep in ( I am used to sleeping on my stomach). The sleep I do

get is not very restful.

I need any advise one can offer, when can I expect the swelling to go

down, is the worst over or is there more to come.

Thanks

Kelli

Hi Kelli

Can only commiserate - I'm in the same boat as you - 5 days post op.

I slept downstairs last night in a recliner chair, fitfully but at

least I could put some quiet music on and not disturb anyone.

This afternoon I popped some Sudafed for the first time which seems

to have helped the congestion a bit - nose still bleeding a little

though. My lips are raw although I think they have all peeled now.

How do you find eating - that is the hardest as I have no appetite.

I'm still on antibiotics which may be making me feel nauseous

So, chin up (or very much down in my case) we can be miserable

together but it won't last.

Where are you from by the way?

Best wishes

Sue (UK)

This will only help a little, but sometimes every little bit helps.

Try folding or rolling a towel or blanket, or using a small pillow,

and sticking it under your knees, behind the small of your back, or

behind your neck. Larger pillows beside you will help hold you up

in the recliner. I would hitch around until I was sort of leaning

against my side, with pillows supporting me on either side and

behind me. It worked better than just flat on my back on the stupid

chair. No, the sleep is not very restful. Lots of naps help. I

also tried lots of pillow against the arm of the couch, and the

papason (the big round chairs you find at Pier One).

At three weeks + I'm still using a couple big pillows in bed. I

tried to ditch one, but woke up with a lot of pressure in my face.

Maybe because I slept on it...

More than likely, you are either going through, or have been through,

the worst, and things should be beginning to get better soon.

Use heat, or ice, or whatever for your back. Have you tried putting a

pillow under your knees? That also might help.

What pain meds are you using? Some folks get better help from

ibuprofen (liquid motrin, if need be) than from some more potent

things.

Humidifier. Hot, soaky bath or shower. Steam on the stove, if nothing

else, unless your doc has forbidden any of this.

Hang on -- you'll get through it! Drink plenty of fluids -- water, if

not anything else -- and keep your nutrition going in.
