In my quest to cut sugar out of my family's diet, I ended up accumulating virtually every sugar free syrup on the market, including the Cracker Barrel. So then I set up the blind taste test for the family. 8 different kinds of syrup in unmarked cups. No suprise: the hands down winner was the full sugar syrup. But in comparison to the others, Cracker Barrel was marginally better. I think they all have a nasty chemical, tongue numbing taste. My mom used to " make " our maple syrup by making a plain syrup with sugar and water, and adding maple flavoring. I think I'll try that with Splenda.... It's made with Splenda (YAY!) and it tastes like the Log Cabin I have always loved. I've tried making simple syrup with Splenda, and since its molecules are not the same as sugar molecules, it doesn't create a very good syrup, at least not in the kitchen with what I have to work with. But for that really good maple-y flavor, the Log Cabin is wonderful! I also like the Pancake Syrup flavor of SF DaVinci, but it is much thinner in texture. If you're going to put something on a pancake or waffle, where thickness matters, the Log Cabin is the winner. And the nice thing is I can buy it in the regular grocery store, so it's not a special trip or outrageously expensive. ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
Have you tried using SugarLike liquid and adding maple extract to taste? Guest guest
The log cabin is certainly tasty, but, for those that watch their carbs it's kinda pricey in the carb department. I use one that is very tasty, can't think of it right now, don't have a bottle handy. It's the sugar free one they have at IHOP... I take a coupla tablespoons of chunky peanut butter and pour the pancake syrup over it, mix it up and then eat.. Man it's so good....
