Does anyone know what happens to your facial muscles as a result of

the surgery? How do the muscles adapt to being stretched if you get a

jaw advancement. A friend brought up this issue and it concerns me

slightly about getting a strain put on your jaw muscles. It doesn't

seem that it is natural for your muscles to be treated this way?

Even so I plan to do it in about a year.

Anyone who has any facts would be much appreciated.

i had some pretty painful muscle tension post-op. it felt like

severe sinus pressure, but taking sudafed didn't stop the pain. it

last about a week. my doctor suggested applying heat the area and

then massaging it. that seemed to work pretty well. it was

painful, but i'm over it now. there is still some soreness in my

cheeks, but my doctor assured me that this is temporary.

i didn't have lower jaw advancement though... mine was moved back.

i had work on my upper jaw too.

anyway, hope that helps.

I had my lower jaw advanced 2 1/2 months ago, and the " muscle

stretching " has never been an issue with me. If anything...I believe

that it has helped to define my jaw line. I had genioplasty also. The

soft tissue was left intact with my chin bone and brought forward.

I would not be concerned about it if I were you...its all good

Your surgeon knows what he's doing.

My left jaw joint was a little tender - it felt like a bruise to the

touch, but it didn't hurt much if I didn't touch it. I mentioned to

the doc where the pain extended, and he said it was muscle pain. He

said he peeled back my muscle to expose the bone, shaved off some of

the bone, and put the muscle back. It's bound to be sore. I think

the tenderness lasted a week or two, but it wasn't bad - again, I

had to touch it to make it hurt. He didn't tell me ice or heat, so

I used ice on the joints because it felt best.

Muscles can take a lot of abuse and still heal. Was Dave Drevekcy

the baseball pitcher who had cancer in his arm? They cut a huge

chunk out of his bicep and told him he'd never have much use in that

arm again. A while later he was able to reach into his back pocket

for his wallet - and I think the next season he was able to pitch a

baseball again. The muscle healed, even with a big portion of it

missing. The muscles in your face only get manipulated, not cut, so

I'd think it's nothing to worry about.
