Guest guest
Well, did the subject line get your attention? While admittedly not necessarily looking foward to attending the conference, I am looking foward to meeting as many of you as I can in Denver. It's not that I don't like to learn... I've been " in school " more years of my life than not. And I usually like to broaden my horizons and take challenges head on... It's just... well... this stuff is not fun, and what I read of it doing to some of your spouses... But, guess my wife could just as easily be on here writing. Back to the seminar... I was going to go to the NDRF conference in DC, but between airfare and hotel, it the price became prohibitive. Plus, with the bite this disease has caused on income and actual " productive " time I have, I opted to go to the MSA conference in Denver. Denver is within driving distance (with my wife's help - of course). Plus, Dr. on is speaking there as well. As Dr. Low is my Mayo neurologist, I'm already familiar with him and some of his views. The only other one speaking in DC that I really wanted to see there was Dr. Grubb. But, I can read his book (or have it read to me?), and then go on from there. Anyway, Denver really sounds great! Speakers look great - and I can't believe there is no charge! We plan on spending some of that money on some fun times for our family in the Denver area. Anyone have suggestions? I have 3 young girls - 11, 7, and 6. While I'd love to do everything with them - my tolerance/energy level often proves low - plus, they'll need some stuff to do while I'm in the conference. Thanks in advance - and thanks again - to all - if for nothing else - than just for being there! - the Okie on the Grand (Northeastern OK) Pond
Guest guest
, We have found that taking the first step to meeting other patients is the hardest. Three years ago, my wife and I met and Terri Moller at a small park (playground) which was convenient for both of us. has MSA as did my wife (who died after fighting it for 12 years). Last weekend we met at the Moller's home and had 14 people there, all involved in a brain disorder or care for a patient. I'm glad you are going to get a chance to meet other people, it helped us. I met Dr. on and a few others at Boston and he is a very knowledgeable doctor as well as a very nice man. Sorry that you did not get to DC, I live 20 miles west of there, but did not get to that conference myself. I have been to Denver (last time was 1995 however) so some things to do there - Red Rock Canyon is a few miles west off I-70 - free and pretty; driving up into the mountains west of the city and following the ridge north is an old mining town and Buffalo Bill's grave is very close to Golden. There is the Coors Brewery in Golden. At that time the El Rancho Restaurant (at the Evergreen exit of I-70) west of Denver about 20 minutes was great - anybody know if it is still good? The drive from Denver to Colorado Springs (Air Force Academy and Pike's Peak) is nice and you may want to detour one way to take that in. For more info try either mapquest.com or yahoo.com for things to do there. Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park is a long days drive (up and back) north at Este's Park, but a pretty drive. Motels outside of Denver especially east are much cheaper, just as they are in the DC area. Guest guest
Dear : There are many things to do in the Denver area. We have a fine Museum of Nature and Science with an IMAX,not far from the Doubletree Hotel. The zoo is in the same location and the Botanical Gardens not far away. In the downtown area we have Ocean Journey a nice aquarium and for fun Elitch Gardens, A Six Flags amusement park, is next to the Ocean Journey. In the downtown area we also have a Children's Museum and a Center for the Performing Arts. Our Historical Museum is located in the downtown area. Downtown has a free shuttle bus that runs along 15th street and a light rail that goes to some areas. A little north of the city we have a Butterfly Pavilion, which children love. For anyone interrested in the mountains the I-70 corridor west offers good views and if you continue to town, Silverplume area not far from Denver, there is an old train that goes on the town Loop. A nice ride with a stoip at an old mine. town itself is a nice town to stroll around and enjoy lunch at the " Happy Hooker " and maybe an ice cream cone after. Central City and Blackhawk are not far if you wish to lose your money gambling. Golden, a small city boasts the Colorado School of Mines and an interesting drive up the Lookout Mountain area where you may visit Buffalo Bill's Grave and Museum. Red Rocks, our natural amphitheatre is an wonderful site. I shall try to have some information available at the hotel. If I may be of assistance, please contact me. Guest guest
Thanks Lyn. I've conveyed this to Donnalee. She'll be in charge of the girls while I'm at the conference :-) I'd like for her to be able to attend as well, but don't see how that can occur. My girls are just too young to glean much from it all. Or at least that's what I think anyway. But... regardless, we have decided to spend extra days there - so we will be taking in some of the sites you mentioned as a family - which is THE ONLY way to go.
