Guest guest
: My first piece of advice would be to see a dentist. They can assess your situation and recommend a course of treatment. If the dentist recommends further treatment, then he might send you to an Orthodontist or Oral Surgeon. If the Orthodontist recommends that you may need braces, expect to wear them for an extended period of time. Some people may just need Orthodontic treatment and not need any surgery. If the Orthodontist recommends surgery, the next step is to see the Oral Surgeon. The OS will then examine you and determine if you are a candidate for surgery. In my case I wore my braces for almost two years before my surgery took place. I have 9-12 months left to wear braces and I am 6 weeks post-op. But keep in mind, your situation is different and the duration of treatment will be different for all patients. Good luck .
Guest guest
please can you help i am mother of four in my late 20's i have sufferd with a birth defect known as orthognathic??? and even though people around me tell me it dont botgher them, it bothers me and i want to get somthing done about it, by complete chance i stumbled accross this message board. i dont know where to go, what to do, who to speak to, about having this corrected to normal, hope to be seeing my gp tomorrow and speaking to her for the first time, i live in london great britain and i am sure the operations are available on the NHS (national health service) but here in the uk the waiting list can go on for years, it is not uncommon for people to wait 6 - 7 years. unfortuantly i am in a position i just want it done, as people are probably aware who suffer from this its in ones own mind. and i will not feel happy and content and most of all confident until i can rectify this defect. if any one out there can offer me some advice on any aspect what so ever and especially the cost as i intend to go private and any names or addresses of clinics that carry out this work. i ould be very greatful. thank you very much for taking the time to read this long message, but it is important to me. samantha 22/4/04 london uk

Guest guest
, I once thought like you do and chose to have the surgery. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I'm over one year post op and am still suffering from the most incredible pain ever from an error in the surgery. More people than you think have problems. Not many of them post to this site. My advice: unless you are in pain now, do not get this surgery done. Guest guest
Mike, I'm sorry to hear your surgery didn't go well. Can you describe what the problem was? Can something be done for your pain? It is important for us to learn about both good and bad outcomes. Irene. > , > I once thought like you do and chose to have the surgery. > It was the biggest mistake of my life.
