Guest guest
Hi All, I am due t see my OS on May3rd but I am dreading the thought of being wired,I am only getting lower jaw moved back(so my ortho tells me). although I really really need this done I am thiking of not getting it, the stories on this forum are swinging me away from just dealing with my servere class III. Some people are numb for months and are depressed. it it all worth it? I would love to hear your views.
Guest guest
i have officially been wired for five and a half weeks and i'm still here. its been tough, i won't lie to you, but its definitely been worth it. i have NO numbness in my chin, lips or lower gums. i have mild numbness in my upper gums, which my surgeon assure me will go away. its even gotten better since my surgery. i've learned that things are usually much less frightening than you imagine. being wired hasn't hurt, i haven't passed out i haven't even lost any weight. i've just mostly been frustrated more than anything about not being able to eat normal foods and talk as clearly as i'd like (although i've been told that i speak very clearly). but you know what? in four days, i'll have the wires taken off and on my way to being normal again. if you decide to go through with it, just prepare yourself mentally for it. keep reminding yourself that its only temporary and the positive results of the surgery will last a lifetime. i was REALLY scared going into this and now that i'm on the other side, i can't imagine not having it done. > Hi All, > > I am due t see my OS on May3rd but I am dreading the thought of being > wired,I am only getting lower jaw moved back(so my ortho tells me). > although I really really need this done I am thiking of not getting > it, the stories on this forum are swinging me away from just dealing > with my servere class III. > > Some people are numb for months and are depressed. it it all worth it? > > I would love to hear your views. > >

Guest guest
so far i'm very happy with the results. my chin just slightly jutted out before so its been moved back. i really like it... i LOVE my profile. it just seems so much more proportioned. there is still some work to be done on my teeth. my open bite is not completely closed, but i guess rubber bands and more orthodontic work will fix that. i'm still BARELY swollen, but the more the swelling goes down, the more i like my appearance. > > > Hi All, > > > > > > I am due t see my OS on May3rd but I am dreading the thought of > > being > > > wired,I am only getting lower jaw moved back(so my ortho tells > me). > > > although I really really need this done I am thiking of not > getting > > > it, the stories on this forum are swinging me away from just > > dealing > > > with my servere class III. > > > > > > Some people are numb for months and are depressed. it it all > worth > > it? > > > > > > I would love to hear your views. > > > > > >
Guest guest
I had palate expansion surgery. I had a gap b/w my front teeth about 1/2 inch wide for about 2 months. Yeah I looked funny and got negative reactions from everyone who crossed my path... But it was worth it. I finally got the nerve to do something that I wanted to do for many years. Sure, there will be short term issues, but time passes quickly. Everyone's situation is different, but do not let very short term issues discourage you from long term benefits. > >
Guest guest
First question: Does your OS wire his patients? Always? sometimes? Seldom? Second question: What kind of doc can you talk with about the possibility of depression? Your GP? Your internist? Your psychologist? Your psychiatrist? Or even -- shudder, shudder -- your OS??? You probably will hit a level of depression post op. And that is worth bringing up to him/her. Most of us do. It has to do with the anesthesia chemicals and the steroids that suppress the swelling. So you may need some help, of whatever kind your docs think best. Honest, for me, the best relief for depression has always been a walk. Not a run. Not anything designed to burn calories. But just being out and moving in the sunshine. As far as feels good and no further. I suspect that neither I nor your doc can tell you what's gonna happen about the numbness. But ask, for sure. And ask what kind of help there would be if that happens. (I had lower advanced and slid sideways, with never a touch of it, for whatever that's worth.) > Hi All, > > I am due t see my OS on May3rd but I am dreading the thought of being > wired,I am only getting lower jaw moved back(so my ortho tells me). > although I really really need this done I am thiking of not getting > it, the stories on this forum are swinging me away from just dealing > with my servere class III. > > Some people are numb for months and are depressed. it it all worth it? > > I would love to hear your views. > >
