Guest guest
Gail, I read your post and I agree that it would be great if we could figure out some mechanism for greeting newcomers to this group. I know that I shared your experience a few months ago when I first joined -- I posted and felt like my words just went winging out into cyberspace, never to be acknowledged or returned. But now I find I'm guilty of the same thing -- I never really have time to even read all the posts (I skim the digests a lot), and even when I do, I don't have time to respond to most, even when I find them interesting. My own experience of this group is that if you sit and wait for someone to acknowledge you, you'll be sitting and waiting a long time. If, however, you ask a specific question, or raise a specific issue, you'll start getting all kinds of responses, most of them kind, funny, caring, supportive and generally just nice. So don't just dip your toe in -- dive in head first! The water's fine! Guest guest
I respectfully don't agree. This is a share group, a self-help group. All a person needs to do is jump in. If you want or need help, comraderie, information, you can't be passive and expect people to come catering. The least a person can do is reach out. That effort is minimal compared to the effort people on this board go to when they support us and reply to our inquiries. I'm participating in my own " recovery, rebirth, new way of life, whatever you want to call it " by the very act of posting this message. Whether or not it gets a reply is secondary. But if I need a reply, I will ask for it. On second thought, maybe that's what people are doing out there when they complain about not getting back a welcome. Oops, I confused myself!!! I'll have to give this more thought while I tread the mill. Whatever you do, DON'T ELECT ME GREATER GREETER! I would fail miserably, as I am too self-centered. I'm having a hard enough time fighting the roaring sugar monster who reared his ugly head this past 2 weeks after a long nap.
