Guest guest
hi all... okay so i got the wires clipped yesterday as i said i would. here i am to report... it is a WEIRD feeling. at first, i was worried because so many people told me that i would barely be able to open my mouth. i thought that it would be disappointing to not be able to jump right into being normal again. it was true... i could only open about a finger's width. but it wasn't disappointing at all! i was just glad to be free. it was hard to even talk at first, i still wanted to hold my jaws shut and my lower jaw felt all wobbly like it didn't know where it was supposed to go. i guess my atrophied muscles were very confused. but even a couple of hours later, i was talking much better and could open a little wider. i know this sounds crazy because i've been whining about food for six weeks, but i was almost more excited about being able to talk than i was about eating! lol! i guess because eating is still a little difficult. a good friend took me out to my favorite italian restaurant last night. i had some bread and pasta and this yummy dessert with strawberries and cream. it was awesome. my muscles are really sore. i had to take some tylenol PM last night. this morning i felt really tight again, but my OS says that each day will get better. as far as " exercising " my jaws, he said all i really need to do is be sure to chew and not to baby my jaws too much. chewing (carefully) will help work the muscles back to normal. so anyway, there it is. any of you who are still wired, pre-op or newly post-op (or anything in between) let me know if i can answer any more questions! thanks for listening... heather
Guest guest
Congrats ...so glad to hear you finally got the wires off! Everything about this surgery is weird...getting used to the wired, getting used to no more wires, etc. It's all a learning experience. Just enjoy the freedom you have now and EAT plenty for us still in the Hanibal Lechter Mask!! - > hi all... okay so i got the wires clipped yesterday as i said i > would. here i am to report... it is a WEIRD feeling. at first, i > was worried because so many people told me that i would barely be > able to open my mouth. i thought that it would be disappointing to > not be able to jump right into being normal again. it was true... i > could only open about a finger's width. but it wasn't disappointing > at all! i was just glad to be free. it was hard to even talk at > first, i still wanted to hold my jaws shut and my lower jaw felt all > wobbly like it didn't know where it was supposed to go. i guess my > atrophied muscles were very confused. but even a couple of hours > later, i was talking much better and could open a little wider. i > know this sounds crazy because i've been whining about food for six > weeks, but i was almost more excited about being able to talk than i > was about eating! lol! i guess because eating is still a little > difficult. a good friend took me out to my favorite italian > restaurant last night. i had some bread and pasta and this yummy > dessert with strawberries and cream. it was awesome. > > my muscles are really sore. i had to take some tylenol PM last > night. this morning i felt really tight again, but my OS says that > each day will get better. as far as " exercising " my jaws, he said > all i really need to do is be sure to chew and not to baby my jaws > too much. chewing (carefully) will help work the muscles back to > normal. > > so anyway, there it is. any of you who are still wired, pre-op or > newly post-op (or anything in between) let me know if i can answer > any more questions! > > thanks for listening... > heather
