Guest guest
My surgeon's office contacted me today. Out of the blue they asked me to come in on Saturday to meet with the doctor and another doctor who will be assisting him. We are supposed to be " planning " . Any idea what this entails? I've had my braces on for a year and 3 months. I was supposed to send the surgeon impressions last month but the orthodontist said I wasn't ready for that yet. A lot has changed tooth-position-wise since then. I was completely psyched about my lower jaw surgery now, I am freaking out. I was just approved by my insurance company recently, maybe this is about that? Or do you think that we'll probably be setting a date? Sorry, I am a first time poster, I'm sure the questions got lost in the rambling #1 What is a planning meeting usually about #2 How close to surgery does one usually have a planning meeting? Guest guest
I think, if I were you, I'd choose to look at this in the most positive light, until you have some reason to think otherwise. I believe that the surgeons looking at you may be to decide whether you're ready, and what they'll do, eventually. I met my surgeon over a year before the actual procedure. He looked at me and talked with me about it all, explaining. I met with him again when my ortho said I was ready. I didn't have a session with him and his partner, who assisted. I did go, because I asked to be allowed to do so, to the session at which he took apart my models and stuck them back together in their new positions to see how they'd fit. These were not the surgical cuts (which I thought it would be, and which I believe he later did in his office on another set of models -- maybe with his partner there. I reckon my models " represented " me at that session). So I don't know that this meeting means anything, except that they know now it's a possibility, since the insurance has agreed, and I'd guess that you're getting close. What excitement! (At least I hope so.) And yep, there's anxiety, of course. But I hope they'll put your mind at ease. Be sure to take your list of questions with you. (I took a tape recorder to my first session and asked him whether he objected to my recording it. He didn't and I found it helpful as the procedure drew closer.) Guest guest
Cammie, You're awesome! Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to be positive about it, but now that it looks that surgery is going to be a reality not some crazy wish, the nerves are setting in. I've always been comfroted by information, so I'd love to hear exactly what they're going to do. I will ask questions, but I'm going to feel pretty dorky reading off a sheet. The tape recrder is an excellent idea, as I know my parents will turn around and play 500 questions with me later. I'm sure I'll have more to ask later, so bye for now! -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , ceast36532 wrote: > I think, if I were you, I'd choose to look at this in the most > positive light, until you have some reason to think otherwise. > > I believe that the surgeons looking at you may be to decide whether > you're ready, and what they'll do, eventually.
