Guest guest
hey everyone..thank you so much for the support. it has really helped me. i have a quick question. im almost 3 weeks post op but im still quite swollen. i had an upper jaw surgery.my cheeks and upper lip are still swollen and when i smile i cant even see my upper teeth yet. is this normal? how long does it take for all the swelling to go? alot of people are very surprised with the way im looking right now.my friends didnt even recognise me when they first saw me. honestly right now i dont like the way i look i hope it changes. according to my surgeon i should not judge the way i look for the next few months coz its gonna keep changing. i hope he is right and things get better. thanks for listening.. gauri
Guest guest
Gauri, that's a question most people have a burning desire to get answered. Alas, there is no one answer. I can tell you that it should soon start rapidly getting better. I can also tell you that when I went by my ortho's office at about 6 or 7 weeks, they said, " You swelling is all gone now. " I never thought I had much -- but I had lower only. And from what I've read, yep. it can take up to a year for all of it to go. That does not mean, though, that you will be as puffy as you are now, nor that you have a real sense of how you're gonna look until things really get settled in. Try to be patient. I know it's hard. But try! We're with you.
