Hi There!!

I just had my last appointment with my oral surgeon before my surgery

next Tuesday and it was very informational!!I am having Upper, Lower,

Genio and cheeks moved forward.

The good news is that I also donated my last pint of blood before

surgery - The Doctor always has his patients donate blood just in

case he needs it (2 pints). Thank goodness my Hempoglobins were above

11...there weren't the previous week - and I had to wait a week and

bulk up on Iron Pills to get me back up.

Basically, he walked me through the procedure and what I need to buy

before my big day to be prepared.

List of stuff to buy:

Baby Tooth brush

Baby Syringe

Robitussin with nasal decongestant

Hydrogen peroxide (to be mixed 50/50 with water to use as a rinse) -

He does not recommend the salt wash - not sure why)

Ocean Nasal Spray

He also walked my brother through what to expect once I am in

recovery. Basically, I will have tubes in both of my noses post

surgery. One tube will be suctioning what ever went into my Stomach

during surgery - This will help prevent nausea. And the second tube

will be a nasal passage that is cleared to help me breathe. During

suregery, this nasal passage is actually where the Anesthesiologost

delivers the anesthesia - Interesting huh!!

I will have my jaw tightly wrapped to keep traction. The doctor will

wrap my legs in an elastic material with electronic massagers to

prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis. Apparently when a patient is left

stationary for a while there is risk of blood clots forming as a

result of lack of movement. The elastic will massage my legs and

prevent this condition from forming.

I will be spending two days in the hospital - and he will see me

every three days thereafter.

He gave me some Zip and Squeeze bags - which is a bummer - since I

just bought a bunch on the web....so if I have any extra - post op -

I will let you guys know...

The doctor highly recommended that I take iron pills three times a

day - with Vitamin C - until the day of the surgery - this will help

the recovery - as it builds your red blood cells. He also highly

recommended that 72 hours post operatively - that I focus on

providing alot of ICE packs to my face - this will highly help the

swelling.

On avergae, he said his patients lose about 10 -12 pounds during

recovery. - I am hoping that is the ase with me too!!!

I thought I would keep you guys in the loop as to what I have been

told what to expect. I am confident that this decision is the irght

one for me.

Tomorrow I am off to the hospital for my pre-admittance check up.

They will prbably poke me w few more times for some samples - but

it's all good!!!

Let me know if you have any questions or comments!!

Thanks for your support!!!

Maybe he doesn't want the salt wash because he's giving you

instruction to do Robitussin (which the salt wash would cut) and he's

telling you to squirt the salt wash into your nose, where it can help

shrink the swelling, and, I reckon trickle through your throat and

clean up. That is what Ocean spray is -- saline.

Sounds to me as though your doc has all the fronts covered.

Try to remember that he's doing a lot of work on your face, and it

will take you a while to get to feeling good afterward, but you will

get there, and we all hope you will be pleased with the outcome. Most

folks are.

His list sounds good, but you may also want a humidifier, a bunch of

Q-tips, and some hydrogen peroxide solution to dip the Q-tps in to

help you (GENTLY!!!!) clean your nose. DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOUR DOC

OKs. AND THAT'S IMPORTANT.

I didn't have the leg stuff (I was surprised, because I have high

blood pressure and have seen a lot of folks, post op, who did have

them --) but that's another indication that your doc is tending to

you. You most definitely do not want a blood clot, which can form in

a leg that isn't moving, and can move into the lungs and be deadly.

That's another reason to do moderate exercise, once you are home, I

was told..

Giving you ZNS bags -- not a bummer at all. He's up on what can keep

his patients more comfy! That's swell!

Good thoughts are with you, my friend.
