Hey Becky - I am at 2 1/2 years. I did / can manage to lose more weight, but

it is such hard work, that I'm refusing to take it seriously. If I keep my

protein shake intake at about 500 calories a day, and do no more than 1000

calories in food, and exercise vigorously 4 times a week, I can lose 2-3 lbs

per month. As it turns out, I am just not willing to sacrifice that much (at

least....not this week :)).

I had surgery 2 years and 4 months ago. I have lost 160 lbs and need

to loose another 40 - 50 to reach goal. I have not lost in months

and think this must be it. As thankful as I am for the loss I still

want more. Greedy Huh? Is there anyone in this list 2 years or

better out and have started to loose again, and please share how you

did it.

Thanks

Yeah, there's lots in your boat!!! Try OSSG- and there might be some

ideas there.

I have a jump start plan that my surgeon gave me. If you are interested, let me

know.

Also, are you drinking protein shakes? Grazing? Drinkng your water?

Exercising?

Yes Becky,

I did. It was amazing, really. I had been doing protein shakes only

occasionally, but when I finally gave up my oatmeal for breakfast and made a

shake instead, it had an unexpected side effect. It made my junk food

munchies pretty much disappear. So, I realized that I wasn't craving the

pretzels, nuts, cookies, etc., which I had been munching on while sitting at

the computer all day (I have a home office). Within a few months, I had

dropped 20 pounds!

Now, there is a down side...that was several months ago, and I'm finding the

cravings are coming back a bit, not as bad as they were, but they're

lingering on the sidelines. When I decide to work at losing the last

10-whatever pounds, I will add another shake or 2 probably mid-morning or

afternoon, and see how that works. It sure can't hurt, right? :)) Point

is, is can be done!

Rita in Vt. did even more that this, with fantastic success. Rita, you out

Hi,

I am 2 1/2 years out with a pregnancy thrown in. I started creeping up at 1

1/2 years out (holiday 2001) and now this holiday season I am already 22

pounds lighter from last year.

You'll probably hear this from a lot of people:

Up the protein (I don't have time to eat enough to digest so I supplement

with proscore100, but have tried all of the egg proteins, soy proteins, other

wheys, etc.),

ditch the white stuff (sugar is my drug of choice),

increase your meals (I keep forgetting to eat, funny huh!) , and

increase activity (just moving, walking, cleaning house).

In fact, I think any combination of the above will start the weight loss

again.

I have not seen anyone fail doing all four parts.

Of course this is what is working for me...

Boy, can I relate to that Kate!! I am really in the same boat........and am

teetering on the same conclusion. I REALLY need to lose more weight! At

5'2 " I am still at 168. Granted, people are always telling me that I look

just fine..and I do wear a 12...I can't help but feel like a big fat slob!!

All last night I was pouring over the before/after photos at

Obesityhelp.com........it was seriously depressing. The first year and a

half I was excellent about working out and protein drinks and such and even

so my weight hit the 165 and didn't budge!! I am not sure that I would ever

physically or emotionally be able to do what it takes to get below that

mark!!!! But at the same time I just can't resign myself to that thought!!!

ARGH.....I am having a hard time of it lately!! P.

Yep Becky....I went from 463 to 242 by 14 months post op and stopped.

Then between yrs 3 and 5 actually regained 64 lbs. At year 5 I

finally accepted that I had to work for the loss/maintenance and could

not rest on my laurels. So, between yrs 5 and 7 I lost that 64 lbs

plus made it to 1anything. Today at 8.75 yrs post op I bounce up and

down 20 lbs (ugh) but it's *only* 20 lbs, not 200 lbs.

I went back to exercise....7 days a week, not 3 or 4, 7!! I started

drinking 80+ ounces of water daily, went to 6 small meals a day,

protein first then veggies, avoided *white, orange and yellow foods*

(ie starchy, sugary foods), each meal has a beginning and an end (I

tend to graze if there is no end to my meal) and of course take my

supplements daily.

It is work and I have to accept responsibility for what I do daily in

order to continue on. I am on the verge now of restructuring again so

I can take off about 10-15 more lbs to be solidly under 200 lbs.

(guess it is just that old nagging feeling LOL)

Hugs

Rita who is still a food addict.

I am just a little over a year out and feeling the same way. I try

not to compare my self to others, but when I see someone that

continuously states (on obesity help) that they have gone from a

size 26 to a size 6 in 6 months, I wonder what I am doing wrong. I

done everything right, and I have only gotten to a 10-12!!

I know, i know, we are all different and lose differently, but

geeze.....

And trying to DIET ..wow, after the year I have just had at doing

everything right, it is just too hard to even think about dieting.

So, I am just trying to be happy with myself, and know that I am

doing the right stuff to stay healthy. I did lose a pound last week

finally, after a month of no losing. And IF I do not lose any

more...well, so be it. I can breath now, and I do not pee myself

everytime I cough. So, I MUST be doing something right!

This same issue just came up on my support group's board. One of the girls

in the group has completely made up her stats (and changes them to suit

whatever situation she's posting about) and says that she went from a size

32/34 to a 4 and from 320 to 140 in 9 months. What she didn't think of when

she posts this stuff, especially on the board for the local - in person -

support group, is that people met her before surgery and remember her. She

was not anywhere near a 32/34 or 320 pounds. I haven't seen her recently

because I've moved away, and she may very well be a size 4 now. She

obviously didn't feel that it was enough of an achievement to go from a 22

to a 4 in a year so she pumped up her stats by increasing the starting

weight and decreasing how long it took. We all need a boost in self-esteem

sometimes, but doing it at the expense of other people (by making their

achievements look smaller and yours bigger by lying) isn't right. Please

understand that I'm not saying that everyone who has unbelievable stats is

lying - many people do have amazing results, just that if it looks too good

to be true, take it with a grain of salt unless you've actually met the

person.

Most of all, be proud of your accomplishments for the great achievements

that they are. The " non-size " results of your surgery are great, and just

as important as getting into a 10/12.

Thanks to the miracle of anti-depressants, I am not having such a hard time

lately. In September and October I was really making myself, and my family, and

many of our dear list-readers, miserable with my agonizing over this last 20

lbs. I started taking meds in mid-November, and know what? I feel better about

myself and my weight! Sure, I'd like to exercise more and eat less, but I'm not

making myself crazy, and I seem to be able to stay off the scale (the daily

weigh-in was more mood-altering than LSD!!).

Because I am really freaky about taking drugs long-term, I am scheduled to go

off the meds the end of this month. I'll be quite interested to see how it

effects my state of mind around my weight.

I am 4 years post op and my weight didn't stabelize until 6 months

ago. What worked for me was not dieting and following the book " The

Seven Secrets of Slim People " religiously. I did the work and

worksheets a few times until I finally and permanently changed my

relationship with food. It was hard work, but certainly not as hard

as dieting and always resulting in failure and regain. My thinking

about food is only in terms of nutrition and energy for my body. I

take RX iron, vitamins and always honor physical hunger. When I

first had the bypass, my metabolism was so slow and messed up that I

didn't lose well at all. As soon as I began following the books

principals my metabolism increased to a normal level and I was always

satisfied. If anything, I know think about food only when I am

hungry and they I eat what I feel my body needs. There are no off

limits foods. The main principal is that I only eat when I am

physically hungry and no matter what or how much I eat I consider it

a meal. At a year post op I had lost 95 pounds, last time I weighed

this past summer I had lost 140 down to 128 or so. (The last 20

pounds came off after my 3rd anniversary!) From what I can feel in

clothes, my weight bounces 5 pounds or so. LOL, to me that is no big

deal at all. Oh, I do not exercise regularly as I have some back

problems that prevented it. I tried as I felt the desire to move and

gain strenght and flexibility. I am healing from reconstructive

surgery the summer and fall and am now waiting for the surgeons OK to

start a strenght and flexibility program again.

The only way to quit losing is to quit! If everything you have tried

so far hasn't helped you begin losing again, then it is time to try

something different. I always tell people that whatever we do to

lose weight (diet changes or exercise), we have to be willing to do

for the rest of our lives or for as long as we want to stay at our

healthy natural body weight. If you eliminate certain foods or

food groups, they seem to become more desireable! BTW, I am a very

short proximal RNY with little if any malabsorption. Good luck!
