Guest guest
This question is to those out there who did not choose to have the surgery - I had TMJ surgery a year ago and now need orthognathic to align my jaws into a proper relationship. I would never have considered this surgery before the TMJ problems arose. I do have a gummy smile (show more gum than teeth when smiling) but am happy with my appearance. I will be having lower advancement and upper raising/advancement (moving up and forward). Sounds like it will be quite a change. My question is if you didn't choose to have the surgery, how was your psychological reaction to post-surgery physical changes? Were you happy with the way you looked or somewhat disappointed? My surgeon did the image morph on my profile pic to what I should look like afterwards. I looked fine, it still looked like me, but different. Is it hard to adjust to the change? Guest guest
Hi! I had my lower jaw and chin moved forward and my palate expanded 1cm. The reasons that lead to me having jaw surgery in December are very long and boring (so I won't bore you with my whole story). But since I didn't have any current problems (it was more prevention) - it made having the surgery even harder since I didn't feel I needed it. But almost 5 months later - I have no regrets. I don't see any big difference physically. I still " look like me " . Other people have noticed the changes, but nobody was shocked by my appearance after surgery. And all comments that I've gotten were positive. Good luck!
