Guest guest
Many of you have asked about a jump start plan. This is the one my surgeon recommends. YMMV. B Your first priority is drinking two quarts of water every day for the rest of your life. It is essential to your weight loss and continued good health. You MUST have 120-160 grams of protein supplement and all of your vitamin and mineral supplements each day to maintain adequate protein, vitamin and mineral levels for optimum weight loss. You may consume up to three ounces of the following high protein foods 5 times a day. ****NOTE**** I am a distal RNY HIGH PROTEIN FOODS: MEAT Beef Pork Chicken Turkey Lamb Fish OTHER SOURCES Eggs Cheese (low fat) Cottage cheese Yogurt (plain or artificially sweetened) peanut butter Beans You may also have: Sugar free popsicles (avoid Welches or all-fruit juice pops). Stick to artificially sweetened varieties. Tea or coffee sugar free sodas sugar free Jell-O Broths and Bouillons Crystal Lite Drinks If it is not on the list, you may not have it!!!! If you feel hungry between meals, try hot soup stock. Swanson's chicken or beef broth with the fat skimmed off is a good choice. Add your favorite herbs and spices. If you want to add fresh vegetables for flavor, strain before serving. For interesting beverages, try mixing flavored herbal teas with Crystal Lte or diet sodas for new flavors. Keep a diary to keep you on track. Do your best to get 30 minutes of aerobic exercise daily.
Guest guest
This information is wonderful but definitely one where Your Mileage May Vary. I had the VBG and do not need anywhere near 120 grams of protein a day. I need a minimum of 50 to 65. Everything else is a wonderful suggestion. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. Guest guest
Thanks !! I was just wondering......I know that the water and exercise are life things, as well as the protein. But is there a specific time frame that this formula should be used....I notice you had said " jump-start " so I thought that it is for a limited time!! I have really got to do something quick!! I have really allowed myself to slip into a bad place of " comfort. " I just had a real eye-opener getting into the shower!!!! I lifted my arm to brush my hair away and noticed that the big bulge, at the end of the upper arm right before the elbow joint, is back.....I could have had a heart attack......I kept telling myself that I am only 6 pounds up from my all time lowest......thinking that it couldn't be THAT bad:( Well, what I failed to take into consideration was WHAT that weight consisted of!! It is FAT and not muscle...I had been working out big time 6 days a week for over a year when I was at the lower weight. Now I haven't worked out for 6 months (due to tt.) Man, is that depressing!! Well, it's back to " plateau breaking " and blood sweat and tears for me P. Jump Start Plateau Breaker > Many of you have asked about a jump start plan. This is the one my > surgeon recommends. Guest guest
My surgeon has recommended just 10 days at a time. Then stop, and gradually intro some carbs and then use this plan when you need it. Take care, B
Guest guest
Oh man........am I a wimp........I was secretly hoping you would say " ABSOLUTELY no more than 3 days " ........ guess I better go meat shopping!! Thanks again, I actually stock up on cottage cheese, cheese cubes for work, and then maybe some deli meat. I don't eat much so this is easy - but I do find when I " try " this, I start reaching for the carbs by the second day unconciously. After all, *I* am the " cracker queen " . Guest guest
I think we have the same " how to' book. Only I took a detour, you stayed on track, but I'm back now.......... and I feel like I may have finally broke that plateau after the malnutrition weight gain.... I was down 3 1/2 lbs yesterday - and I think it's " real " cuz I fastened my belt buckle on a new loop - one that had never been " looped " before!!!! So, I think maybe my body doesn't think it's starving anymore???? Geesh, it only TOOK it 10 months to figure it out!!!!!! B

Guest guest
ME TOO! My sisters and I all jokingly refer to ourselves as " The Carb Queens " ....we say that if you aren't addicted to carbs than you can't possible be from this blood line!! I have been ousting the carbs for the last 4 or 5 days now......what a difference.....I don't realize how addicted I am and how horrible they are till I cut them out!! I haven't had any cravings for 3 days now and have RE-lost the 2.5 pounds again!! I keep telling myself to just chill....I still have 30 pounds to lose and in the back of my mind (thinking like I am still 250) I keep thinking that, gee,30 pounds, I oughta be able to take that off in 5 or 6 weeks......I WISH......looking at it realistically this A.M. I realized that it could take up to 2 years at the speed I am going!!!! Wow......I guess slow and steady does it!!!!!!!! P. Guest guest
: If you love crackers, and I do too, you might try ones that are 100% whole wheat. Whole Foods Markets sell one that's like a triscuit. The *only* ingredients are whole wheat and salt. This is a more complex carbohydrate than those with white flour or whole wheat flour. The whole wheat flour ones are just as much like sugar as the white flour ones. The brown color just makes us feel like we're being healthy. in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: Jump Start Plateau Breaker > .. > After all, *I* am the " cracker queen " .
