Guest guest
Hi everyone I wonder how many people in the group have had EMG tests ?...I suspect most have at sometime or other.Do people with MSA have normal EMGs? I had mentioned to my Doc that I felt I was loosing some strength and so we did a EMG yesterday with a neurologist and i was nice and normal! Lifted my spirits somewhat as he was suspecting ALS rather than SDS .(I still have no firm diagnosis) Love to all, Marg Manson.

Guest guest
Hi EMG is short for Electromyography--a record of electrical activity in a muscle and also measures the conduction in nerves as they respond to an electrical stimulus.Mostly used to assess nerve damage or to investigate neuromuscular disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis.I was wondering if others had normal tests in spite of experiencing cramping and muscle spasms. , I`m sure this would have been done for Deborah if it was needed. You and Deborah are in my thoughts and prayers daily Much Love to you both, Marg Manson Setzer wrote: Hi,Sorry if this sounds stupid, but what is a EMG test? Guest guest
Hey , No it doesn't sound stupid!! I can bet we have all learned so many medical phrases. that if some people overheard us chat they would think many are doctors>> including you. I don't post replies to many things because I am not familar with situations enough to feel I can give an intellegent answer. However EMG's and I are all too familar. I have had 4 in the past 2 yrs. As Marg stated > ouchie!!! some I have chatted with didn't have much pain with them, but I sure bit my sweater. You can find specific info on EMG's at http://www.medicinenet.com/ under test and procedures. The 2nd one I had done when the muscle part of the test was conducted and needle inserted in my hand music came out of the machine. Doc said had happened before but at the time it gave us all a big chuckle. If only it hadn't been an old Beetles tune playing, kind of gave away my age :-). To answer the 1st question posed on normal/ not normal results. I had no muscle deteriation probs detected, however there was nerve conduction problems and delays. The last one even picked up fasclicatations so that helped to confirm the twitching/ spasms I experience. Hope that helps... w/ big ole' WV hugs..... Guest guest
Hi Marg, Yes, I had this test done in November 2001. Doc called it a nerve conduction test. We didn't know the official name of it. Mine was normal. Hugs, Deborah Hi EMG is short for Electromyography--a record of electrical activity in a muscle and also measures the conduction in nerves as they respond to an electrical stimulus.Mostly used to assess nerve damage or to investigate neuromuscular disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis.I was wondering if others had normal tests in spite of experiencing cramping and muscle spasms. , I`m sure this would have been done for Deborah if it was needed. You and Deborah are in my thoughts and prayers daily Much Love to you both, Marg Manson Setzer rsetzersr@...> wrote: Hi, Sorry if this sounds stupid, but what is a EMG test? Guest guest
Rose, I couldn't stop laughing about the music. That is a hoot.. Thanks to all for your letting me know. Deborah has had so many test that the one left me thinking,, but yes, she had one done in Nov of 01. It proved neg at that time. I would ask her to have another one done now but after all they have done to her, no way will I suggest that. She had a PET scan done about 3 weeks ago and they had to stick her 3 times because her veins are as small as a piece of thread and they just get the needle in and the vain blows.. She just cant handle it any more. But the worst part was, after they did the scan.. Guess what, they didn'tt have any one qualified to read it.. Even the so called Nero radiologyist said to me, sir, I am only qualified to read for tumor, seizure, and Alzheimer's.. So now I have an appointment with a Dr Bergman MDS at USCMC in ton on the 19th of Aug.. he couldn't believe they did a test that they couldn't read.. It just goes to show you, they are still practicing and learning. What a shame to put some one through the torment and not get results... > >Reply-To: shydrager >To: shydrager >Subject: Re: EMG tests >Date: Sat, 06 Jul 2002 03:32:05 -0000 > >Hey , >No it doesn't sound stupid!!
