Guest guest
Hi Connie, I know this was addressed to , but I had to tell you about several emails we've received from the autoimmune group concerning this product. Just wanted to tell you that there is a person in the autoimmune group that was using the Moducare and is having terrible problems now. I don't know anything about this product and don't claim too, but she is in dire straits from using this and asking for advice. I'll see if I can find her letter and post it. I repeat, I don't know anything about this product, but she wanted to get the word out about it, so I thought it was only fitting to pass this on before anyone tried it. W >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In addition, there's been a fair amount of discussion on the rheumatic group concerning a product called Moducare. It too can be accessed on the Natural Pharmacist site. It looks pretty interesting and I wonder if you've heard of it?
Guest guest
Connie, Here is one of the posts I was referring to about Moducare. Like I said, I don't know anything about this product, but thought it was important that you read this. W >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > Hi Marie! I went to the website and read their info and then did a little research of my own. Sterols (which is the " Plant fats " that are in moducare) are essential components of all sell membranes--both plant and animal. The ones they use in this moducare are from plants. The research they show on the website has all been summarized, so that part is difficult to evaluate without going to each study individually. I went to some articles in the British Medical Journal and wasn't able to find anything about sterols and modulation of the immune system. > Sterols are the active ingredient in the cholesterol lowering margarines (i.e. benacol). They work by reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the body because they take up the space the cholesterol would occupy. (over-simplification, but that is basically what they do) They also interfere with the absorbtion of some of the fat solubles vitamins (most notably Beta carotene, alpha-carotene and Vit E) but according to the studies I read, not to any significant degree (when adjustments were made for the requirement changes). > I don't see any reason off the top of my head why these sterols would modulate the immune system, but I can't rule it out. The thing that concerns me is the extent of the health claims they make for the stuff. " If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. " > Also some of the claims when read carefully aren't all that impressive. For example, for HIV the article indicated that the Tcell counts remained stable over five years. This isn't unusual, even without treatment. What you want to see is an improvement. And traditional, western medicine has reached the point where HIV is considered a chronic illness rather than an immediate death sentence. I have two friends who are now showing none of the virus in their blood, and are currently very healthy. One has now been virus-free for over three years. They do remain on maintenance medications, but they feel great. > Anyway, my conclusion is it probably wouldn't hurt anything (unless you are allergic to the plants they derived the sterols from) but I wouldn't count on too much. > Kathy > > > > From: aaa.woodwork@q... > > Date: 2001/05/29 Tue PM 10:06:09 EDT > > To: autoimmune@y... > > Subject: [autoimmune] Moducare > > > > --- End forwarded message ---
Guest guest
Hi :-) Thanks for finding the info.....I'll ask at the rheumatic group to see if anyone has noticed any problems. Then, I'll let you know... Hope you aren't working too hard, take care, OK? Connie > Connie, > Here is one of the posts I was referring to about Moducare.
