Guest guest
Hi everyone - I'm new to this process, but for now, I'll just ask one question. How soon after surgery (lower & upper) do you think that I would be able to travel by airplane? Is one week far too ambitious? How about two? Thanks, Chris
Guest guest
It's been 12 days for me and my doc doesn't recommend traveling until another 2 weeks. The change in pressure really gets to you. Hope this helps. > Hi everyone - > > I'm new to this process, but for now, I'll just ask one question. > How soon after surgery (lower & upper) do you think that I would be > able to travel by airplane? Guest guest
You should ask your surgeon - I had upper/lower/genio and travelled by plane (Toronto to UK and back) after 11 weeks. My biggest fear was being able to open my jaw wide enough to clear the pressure in my ears. I was able to eat by then, but was not chewing much, and I still had limited opening. It also depends on why you're travelling. If it's for pleasure, I'd wait until you were further along in the recovery. I took 5 weeks off work and was still weak going back. You'll soon find it takes forever to eat and clean, and your energy levels will take time to come back. I'm a high energy person, and found it surprising just what this process of recovery can take out of you. At 6 weeks, I did some major overtime at work and found out just what stress can do to the body (mouth swelled up inside, I was very faint, it took 3 days of doing almost nothing but lay on the couch to recover). Having said that, I did paint much of the interior of my house during my recovery, but there was no pressure, I could plop on the couch anytime I wanted! > Hi everyone - > > I'm new to this process, but for now, I'll just ask one question. > How soon after surgery (lower & upper) do you think that I would be > able to travel by airplane? Guest guest
i was still pretty congested after one week, which i think would probably make flying uncomfortable. i think you'd be good to go after two. you're not going to feel 100% for quite some time so you never know... when the time comes you may decide that you'd rather not go anywhere at all. i was back to work after a week (i had lower and upper) but work was pretty much the only place i could handle going to. i just got tired easily. > Hi everyone - > > I'm new to this process, but for now, I'll just ask one question. > How soon after surgery (lower & upper) do you think that I would be > able to travel by airplane? Guest guest
Just had a rount table discussion with my OS group, most of the patients there were going to have their surgery during the summer. We were strongly advised to stay close to home. No traveling. What also interested me was that we were told not to l ift heavy objects bec it contorts the facial muscles... Very interesting.... For those of you whose physicians offer this round table - you must go. It is very informative and you get to meet former patients who are very honest.
