Can anyone identify with this?

My surgeon is going to remove my splint this Thursday, 3 weeks post

surgery. I will be delighted as, despite not being able to talk

clearly and making me salivate copiously, it continuously chomps

down on my gums on one side and consequently I think it is

perpetuating the inflammation.

My ortho has asked me to put bands on afterwards to wear 12 hours a

day but said he would be quite happy to delay that for another four

weeks if the surgeon is happy.

Did anyone else not have banding of any sort for some weeks after

surgery (this was upper, lower, palatal split)? It worries me a bit

that I'm just hanging loose all this time with no support!

Thanks

I went home from the hospital without bands or wires. I had none

until I developed some minor pain in the jaw, at which time my

surgeon twisted on some monster hooks and applied two bands. The pain

went away in 15 minutes.

I stayed that way until I went back to my ortho at week 7, when the

splint came out. My surgeon said the ortho would change the wires...

He did. He cut them into segments, removed some parts, and banded me

directly to the brackets, which I loathed, but did. I had elastics,

one way or another, until my braces were removed two months later.

Have you told the surgeon what the ortho said? I would, and then I'd

ask the two of them to agree on what should be done, and then I'd try

my best to do it.
