Guest guest
Hello everyone I introduced myself to everyone yesterday. Thank you for the warm welcome..I am curious about the chat room... Are there any regular scheduled times for chats ? Been in the chat room but never see anyone in there. I have been reading lots of posts which is very helpful. My starting weight was 313.5 and is currently 220.. I have been on a platue for the past 6 months.. I was getting real tired of the disapointment I went through each day when i weighed my self.. So, I gave my scale to my mother. I was obsessed with it.. I weighed myself all the time. Go to the bathroom.. weigh.. eat... weigh.. weigh just because.. I'm so glad i got rid of that thing... I was at my moms home the other day and decided that i would weigh.. been about a week... I was so happy... I lost 8.5 pounds.. And now I'm off that platue.. I couldn't believe that i lost weight after not losing for 6 months.. I thought there was something wrong with the scale.. so i had my son weigh.. I had truely lost the weight. Amazing. I have been working very hard to get off the platue.. I weigh everything.. measure and count calories. I walk at least 2 miles a day.. and ride the stationary bike at least two miles three times a week..I take my pills every day and drink the required amount of water and eat close to 100 grams of protein each day.It took several weeks of this to finally lose weight.. I noticed there has been people talking about cold hands and feet.. I have been experiencing that also.. I am usually the one who is hot all the time.. Not anymore... I also noticed others complaining about headaches.. I too get them now and never did before surgery.. I think it is due to some of side effects of my mental pills. Well, better go before you all fall asleep.. sorry it is so long... Thanks for all the posts it helps to keep my head on straight.. Guest guest
In my opinion (which is an immediate clue that you can toss it if you like) your exercise program is not efficient. You need to add some strength training to build some muscle (not arnie size, just firm up and strengthen). It revs up your metabolism PERMANENTLY so long as you maintain the strength training. The walking and aerobic exercise only ups the metabolsim for a couple of hours. Plus your body will start to shrink big time in about 4 weeks. I was floored when about 4-6 weeks after strength training, even though I had only lost 6 pounds, I went down 2 sizes1 And that's after I had been on a long 8-9 month plateau. I do some circuit training and some free weight lifts, nothing real ambitious, but enough to keep the fires burning. Vicki A. P.S. I'm sorry to say, if you look at the routines of people who stay in normal shape (like on the board or in magazines), most seem to put in an hour or more 6 times a week > Hello everyone I introduced myself to everyone yesterday. Guest guest
So why is it not working for me? I began weight training on Sept. 20, go three times a week, have a personal trainer, have steadily increased both amount of weight and reps. Now my measurements are LARGER than before and my weight is up about 3 pounds. Measurements are not drastically larger, between 1/4 and 1/2 inche everywhere. So what gives? Do you have a clue because my trainer does not. I'm really frustraterated- help! Anybody? Guest guest
Kudos to you on a fantastic commitment to redefining your body. working with a strength trainer is way too hard for me to even fathom! Are you already at your goal weight and pretty small? I started about the same date you did and was a size 22. Now I am a size 18, but I am nowhere near goal yet, so I had a lot of fat hanging around. Also, I was advised NOT to increase the weight, but to increase the reps. A small number of reps and increasing weight is for building muscle mass (size). That's the goal of a lot of personal trainers. I worked up to 20 lb weights on the tricep curl, 3 sets of 10 and was advised by my Dr. to drop back down to 15 pounds and add reps instead of weight. Now I am up to 3 sets of 25 and have applied this across the board. I am building strength and endurance, but not mass. Finally, if it's any consolation, a real loose rule of thumb is that you have lost at least 2x in fat whatever your weight gain is. A couple of years ago Prevention magazine did a 6 week trial study with women on strength training. Some lost weight, some just a little, and one may have gain a smidgeon. But when they measured fat loss, the results were astounding. Don't quote me on it (you can look it up at prvention if you are interested) but I seem to remember one woman losing 3 pounds, but actually gaining 3 pounds of muscle and losing 6 pounds of fat. It's not about weight anyway. I don't care how much i weigh if my body is functioning efficiently and i have a chance at a longer, more active life. Guest guest
Thank you. No, not at goal weight yet but don't know if I'll ever get there. I would like to drop another 10 pounds but it's not the end of the world if I don't. However, the end approaches if I gain. I am by no means small (but much, much smaller than before surgery!). I wear a size 9 pant and a med/lg. top. Never, ever before in my life have I been able to shop in the junior department! Whodda thunk!?!? I find that paying for a trainer helps keep me honest- expensive but whatever keeps me going. The other aid is a workout buddy- when she is wanting to flake I shove her behind into the gym, when I'm wanting to be lazy she chides me into going. We met in a gym, fell into instant like, and have been working out together for three years. We increase the weight when the lifts are no longer challenging. I usually do two to three to sets of about 30 reps., just go until the last two are very hard to do and then stretch and on to the next. I am now trying to 20 min. of cardio with each session but time is a factor and especially this time of year. By the time that I drive to the gym, warm up, do the workout, and drive home I've put in two hours and then home, shower, change and then............begin my day I'm down three hours before I start! Thanks to you and everyone for your encouragement. It is greatly appreciated. Alice The Loon RNY 12/28/00 Kudos to you on a fantastic commitment to redefining your body.
