Guest guest
Hi, my name is . I'm 14 years old and I live in BC. Is there anyone who has had surgery who lives here? I visited an orthodontist for the first time two days ago, who I was referred to by several people, including some dentists. He said that there was only one way to fix my jaw 100%, with surgery on both the top and bottom jaw. I have an overbite and an open bite. The ortho said it was quite bad. Does anyone else have (or had) problems like these? I would also have to have braces for 2 years )(before, during, and after the surgery). My parents never took my for regular dental checkups (even though I was always asking them to, because I hate my crooked teeth!). Could that be one of the reasons why my teeth and jaws are so bad? My mom is more worried about the surgery than I am. She thinks she knows more than she does, and she's giving me all these horrible testimonials about the surgery. It sounds to me as if most of the surgeries work well. I'm pretty sure she's just looking for any way to get out of it. Just like she's always done with dentists and doctors. Anyway, we're going to get some more opinions, but I'd just like to know more about it from people who have had similar procedures done. Thanks for your support:) ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca
Guest guest
Hi , I'm from Ontario, I know of a former member here named " protrusive profile " who was from Vancouver area, you'd have to go way back in the posts to read her stuff. No, not having dental care doesn't usually cause these problems, as far as I know. Sometimes things can be done orthodontically at an earlier age (maybe 10-14 years?) to correct, but don't blame this on your parents. It could just be that you have inherited this problem. I had upper/lower/genio surgery almost 2 years ago, I too had an overbite, and a retrognathic lower jaw. I would only caution that you might still be too young for the surgery, your bones need to stop growing. There is another member here who had to wait quite a long time to have surgery until they were quite sure she'd stopped growing (adult). Anyway, there's a test they can do to tell. Most people who don't know anything about this surgery think it is either unnecessary or very painful and awful. It's difficult to explain to them. What I hope your ortho and surgeon will do is help your parents to understand that they can fix the structural skeletal problems, align your teeth properly, and give you a permanent solution that will prevent health problems in the future. Having a misaligned bite can contribute to gum disease, tooth loss, wearing down of the jaw joints, etc. Also check out the info website for some personal surgery experiences at http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo - just click on PERSONAL SURGERY EXPERIENCES in the left hand sidebar. > Hi, my name is .
