Guest guest
Dale, I think Mozart would have served me equally well -- actually, he's my all-time fave, and can lift me out of any depression I've ever hit. He's a lot gayer, if I may use that word in its old- fashioned context, than the Most Serious Herr Bach and family. Who knows??? -- I might have been up and trying to dance with my nurse across the recovery room! But the Bach, best I remember, was part of a set (The Jacket Set) one of my all-time best buds gave me. It had a bunch of the partitas, fugues, English suites, etc., all on a looooong CD. That was important to me -- that it continued for a long time before repeating. I did use a machine that kept on going at least as long as that infamous Bunny. I would not have been up to changing discs, I think. But it kept on keeping on, and fell into a rhythm that let me expect the next one. I do believe that even the great b minor Mass would have worked, as it has become familiar and beloved to me. I wouldn't advise abandoning your therapy tapes for it, but I do believe it worked well for me. So would Mozart, methinks. I can, somehow, pick the pattern of the programming up, for good or evil. (I also like using Bach, Mozart and others -- New Orleans' own Louis Moreau Gottschalk included -- on the treadmill.) Anyhow, this Bach was Glenn Gould, on piano (I'm not crazy about the organ stuff; forgive my prejudices), who is to me both the most eccentric and the most wondrous of Bach interpreters. And there was indeed something about the rhythm, order and structure of it all that guided me through the night -- or at least I felt it did -- when I was seeing odd sights that I knew did not exist in truth. (Who knows WHAT I might have done with Gottschalk's Latin rhythms? Ordered crawfish etouffee for dinner, maybe?) C > Hi Cammie, > I'm lining up some Mozart post recovery room.
