Updated pics!!!

Hello everyone-

Thanks for everyone's great responses and positive feedback on this

site. I am just 5 days post-op, but am feeling better every day. I

posted some pics one the orthognathicsurgerysupport website under

the tab Links, then the bookmark Photo Albums, Onefabulousgirl75's

surgery pics.

My face is still pretty swollen, but I'll post some more pics soon.

Let me know if you're not able to get to the pics, I'll figure out a

better way to post them.

Thanks again,

:)

,

Thanks for the pictures. I hope you feel better soon and the

swelling goes down quickly. What did you have done, and how long did

you have your braces on before the surgery?

Irene.

Hi Irene-

I had braces when I was a teenager for 5 years. At that time I was told I should

have the surgery, but my parents' insurance wouldn't pay for it and my parents

weren't too keen on the idea so we decided not to do it. My ortho tried rubber

bands and head gears...I did have the upper expansion. (Where you have a bar

across the roof of your mouth and turn the key to expand your jaw.)

When I was 25 years old I got braces again because my teeth had become very

crooked. I also was still unable to bite into food and I would get headaches.

This was due to me losing my retainer (opps!) and also my incorrect bite. I have

a class III open bite. In my initial consultation my orthodontist said that

surgery would be the best way to fix my bite and that if I didn't take care of

this now it would cause more problems for me in the future.

I've had my braces on since July 2001 (almost 3 years now) and I just had the

surgery on May 4th. My insurance covered the entire surgery 100%. I had lower

only. They moved my jaw back a few mm's and over to the right since it was

asymmetrical. I will have wires and a splint for 2 weeks and then I will be

banded shut for 4 weeks.

1 week down...5 more to go!! I wish I had a time machine and could speed up time

and it would be June 14th already!!

Take care,

Hey ,

Wow, sounds like you had lots of ortho treatment done in your life!

Hopefully, this would be the end of it :). I just looked at your

pre-surgery pictures, and your teeth didn't look that bad, and you

always tend to think that something has to look really wrong for

someone to go for the surgery, know what I mean? I'm kind of in the

same boat, and people keep second guessing me - why have the surgery

when you look fine as it is. Sometimes it is hard to explain that

it's not only about the looks.

Hope to see more of your pics (with swelling down this time around!).

Irene.
