Guest guest
Arto, where you the one that was commenting a few months back about the benifits to omega 3 fatty acids? If so this supports the benifits. Another article included tuna as a fatty fish. R. Eating Fatty Fish May Reduce Prostate Cancer Risk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WESTPORT, CT (Reuters Health) May 31 - Men who consume moderate-to-high amounts of fatty fish, such as salmon, herring and mackerel, which contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, appear to have a significantly reduced risk of developing prostate cancer, according to a report in the June 2nd issue of The Lancet. Dr. Terry, from the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, and colleagues collected data on 6272 Swedish men, who were a mean age of 55.6 years at baseline. The subjects, who were twin pairs, completed questionnaires on lifestyle factors, including diet smoking and exercise. During up to 30 years of follow-up there were 466 cases of prostate cancer reported in the cohort, the researchers note. When Dr. Terry's team looked at the association between prostate cancer and fish consumption, they found that high fish consumption was associated with physical activity, smoking and consumption of fruits and vegetables. High fish consumption was inversely associated with eating red or processed meat. Both age-adjusted and multivariate-adjusted risk-factor analyses revealed that increased fish consumption was associated with a decreased risk of prostate cancer. Men who did not eat fish were at a 2- to 3-fold increased risk of developing prostate cancer compared with men who ate moderate-to-high amounts of fatty fish, Dr. Terry and colleagues note. " Our results support the hypothesis that fatty fish consumption lowers the risk of prostate cancer, possibly through inhibition of arachidonic acid-derived eicosanoid biosynthesis, " the investigators conclude.
