Guest guest
I am in a predicament ( spelling?) the RP doctor that I counted on being available should I ever need him again , is gone and I cannot find him! His name is Dr. Lee Kaufman and was with SUNY Stonybrook on Long Island New York. I would like to request 2 things of the members, one is , does anyone know where this rheumotologist is? and the other is - does anyone know of a doctor that is familiar with RP in the Long Island, New York area? Or, does anyone know of one in New York City. Dr. Kaufman was great and was not an alarmist, so much so that I did not need to see him unless things changed which they have. Any help would be wonderful! Lillian
Guest guest
Lillian, I wish there was something I could do to help. I'm in California and can't do a thing.... I can sympathize with you though, I lost my dr of 10 years...He was wonderful and up on all of the autoimmune diseases..... He just quit his practice and there I was (along with many other) without a doctor. We live in a small town and there aren't many. Good luck, hope you can locate him. Do you know if he is still practicing? hugs

He also had an attitude that made me think he really didn't give a damn!!!This might be unfair of me but it is the way I felt. We went to Seattle Washington and saw Dr. Jane Buckner who is currently doing research and we were very very pleased..she spent a good 2 hours with us and answered all my questions and within 2 days had called Pete's doc in NY and made some medication suggestions. Also many people in the group have gone to Dr.Trentham in Boston MA and been very happy with his care ..he is extremely knowledgeable re:RP...We went there twice and were not happy because we only got to see him 5 to 10 mins. However I think if that is your choice if you call ahead and explain that you need time with him to answer your questions, others have gotten to see him for a much longer period of time than we did and certainly he is well-known and one of the best re:RP...Good Luck Janet
Guest guest
Dear Lillian, what do you mean he disappeared??? Have you called your local hospital to see if he's still on staff. If so they can take a message or even page him. Doctors usually make rounds in the mornings. If you liked him and relied on him track him down. There has to be several hospitals in your area so call them all. If you find him ask for a referral if he retired or whatever.
