The very first flare I had on my nose was devasting to me, along with

very painful, and I didn't have a clue what was happening to me. I

called my PCP, and he was out that day so they said for me to come in

and see the nurse practioner. She took one look at my nose and

said, " have you been under a lot of stress " . I said, " well, no more

than usual, why? " She said, " you have shingles and it's caused from

stress. " I honestly believed her until I had my first ear flare.

Has anyone else ever been told they had shingles on their nose or

ears? Marilyn

I just wanted to say while the subject of shingles has come up, I had very

severe shingles the year before last which lasted about 10 months (I was

planning the first birthday party!) I was not given the anti viral treatment

in the beginning as when I saw a doctor (not my own) she said I had had the

blisters too long to be of any benefit. When I saw my consultant after

having shingles for 6 months he was furious, and said it is VITAL that

anyone immunocompromised is given this treatment. He said it can be life

threatening if don't get it. So please, anyone unfortunate enough to get

shingles, insist on the right treatment (I was given acyclivir by him)

I hope everyone is doing ok. I am off for two weeks on Sat. (Going to Loch

Ness to look for Nessie!) I will be in touch when I get back

Take care

Anne

Dear Anne,

Thanks for the input on shingles. In my case, it was probably an RP

flare, but hadn't been dx by the rhumatologist at that time. It was

only after the flare with my ears that they figured out that was

probably what had happened to my nose. The nurse didn't give me any

meds at the time I was in there. Thanks for letting me know. I

never did get any blisters, it was gone in a couple of days but " Boy "

was that ever painful. Hope you have a great vacation. Sounds like

a lovely place to go for some R & R. Hope you are doing well.

Love, Marilyn

Hi lin

If this happens again and they think they are shingles make sure you get the

treatment OK? Yes, they are painful, but I'm so pleased you didn't end up

with blisters etc. It is horrendous, and we can do without extras like that!

I am looking forward to some R & R definitely. Take care

Love anne
