Guest guest
Hey , is this disc displacement you're speaking of the same as joint replacement? My doc says I might have to do that, but it sounds scary. What does it consist of and do you come out swollen like orthog surgery? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi, No, disc displacement is not the same as joint replacement. Like was saying, arthroplasty is a general term for several different joint procedures. It covers open as well as arthroscopic surgeries. It can mean sewing the disc back in place or replacing it altogether with a temporalis muscle graft. I've had arthroscopy, temporalis muscle grafts and bilateral joint reconstructions done as well as two orthognathic surgeries. The arthoplasties involved a lot less pain and swelling than the orthognathic surgeries and I felt completely recovered two weeks later. The joint reconstruction was much more difficult and painful but hopefully none of you will ever need that. > > > Hi everyone, > > > I was hoping someone from this group might be able to answer > > some > > > of my questions. Guest guest
Thanks ! I'm just really nervous about having my mri now. My joints hurt everyday and i feel like something's loose there! The sound of joint replacements is very scary to me. I just hope everything is part of the initial healing process for orthog surgery and that things will be better in time. -Thy > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I was hoping someone from this group might be able to answer > > > some > > > > of my questions. Guest guest
Thy- Don't worry about having an MRI done. It's better to know what is going on than to guess what's going on. Both joints hurt for me every day too, but what my recent MRI revealed about my right one is that the deterioration is still very minor at this point. I've had an artrhoscopy too, like , and two arthrocentises (even less invasive than an arthroscopy). I'm at a precarious stage now where I may have to reconsider open joint surgery, but it's hard to share details about that since there are so many different things that could come about during the surgery. Not negative, but docs can only see so much in an MRI, if you know what I mean. The arthroscopy was a piece of cake and my regular OS says that open joint surgery would not be nearly as challenging as my orthognathic surgery was (and I didn't think the orthognathic surgery was all that terrible). Joint replacement is a last ditch effort, and even if you've read my recent post that spells out exactly what the radiologist saw in my left joint, I know I am no where near needing replacement yet. So don't worry about that now. The joints have to be really bad to need replacing... and I mean REALLY bad. Just have the MRI and listen to what your doctor tells you about it. You will be okay!!! > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > I was hoping someone from this group might be able to > answer > > > > some > > > > > of my questions.
