Guest guest
Hi guys! You're welcome, you're welcome, you're welcome. I just couldn't stand the thought of women staying alone in a scary place! I drove by the Sun Suites on Merit Drive, which I think you said was the cheapest. There may be a reason for that. The place itself looks fine (they kind of all look the same), but it's really far from Baylor and not really near much else. It is in the middle of a bunch of office complexes and storage facilities and I didn't see a grocery store anywhere nearby. There are a lot of apartment complexes with big fences around them nearby, which did not look like a good sign that it was a safe neighborhood. I also drove by the Extended Stay America on Greenville, and that would probably be my pick. It is just off LBJ Freeway, which is a major East/West freeway that can get you just about anywhere pretty quickly. It's probably a 15-20 minute drive from Baylor, but it would be easy to get to. There is a Kroger (grocery store) about 2 blocks away that you could walk to, and there are several restaurants within a couple of blocks (for soup and things to throw in the blender). From the hotel parking lot, I saw a Red Lobster, a Braum's (ice cream), an Olive Garden, and a Cheddars (sort of like Chili's, sure to have lots of soup). You would also be a quick hop down Greenville to a TON of restaurants, and a 10 minute drive from two great malls (Northpark and the Galleria) for when you get bored. You'd be pretty much surrounded by office and medical buildings, which seems like it would be safer to me than being near a bunch of apartments (don't know why I think that). In case you end up hating the place, there are also two or three other " suite " type hotels in that same intersection. I did not drive by the other places because my kids were losing their patience with our tour of North Dallas, but I'd pick the Candlewood Suites over the Homewood Suites because Candlewood is closer to civilization (i.e. more restaurants and grocery stores). It is also near UT Southwestern Medical School (great hospital complex) in case of emergencies. The Homewood Suites is really near Texas Stadium, which means it's really far from Baylor. The other two places looked pretty isolated on Mapquest. I'd be happy to answer any Dallas-related questions that you guys might come up with. I agree with Cammie that having someone help you out the first week would be really important--I'm not sure how I would have made it through the first few days without my husband close by. Let me know if you think of anything I can help with! -- Amy > > > > > > > > > > > Val, just curious if Dr. Wolford is performing > your > > > > > surgery > > > > > > > at > > > > > > > > > > > Baylor?
