Hi everyone,

Although my surgery is a ways off, I am trying to prepare for the

finances of everything. Insurance will cover everything except the

genio.(which I expected). My question to you vets. is: If you had

genio. done, are you happy with the results?

I still would like to have it done, but I'm afraid I will end up

with an out-of-proportion chin. I have a small nose, and mouth, and

am a little unsure of how much a genio. alters your chin? Isn't that

changing the skeleton and shape of the face? Just curious what

thoughts are on this....

Thanks much!

Hi ,

I had uppef/lower/genio (overbite/overjet/retrognathic lower jaw).

My surgeon said I had a strong chin. He shaved some bone off, and

moved it forward. I think it looks ok - I don't actually notice much

change in the chin at all, even though the rest of my face changed

quite dramatically. You can see my pictures on site 2.

It may not make much change, but it can balance the other changes

the surgeon makes.

Nope. Didn't have it.

I will tell you, though, that the folks I have known who have been

happiest with the results have trusted their surgeons to decide, once

in the OR, and with the rest of the surgery done.

That's not a never fail rule -- I don't think there are such. But

generally, these docs know what they're doing. If I had it to do

again, and there was a question, I'd say, " Dr. Z., I'm going to sleep

now. You decide. "

And I believe I'd be happy with the results.

Just my o.
