Guest guest
My 13 y/o daughter had upper/lower/palat/4 wisdom teeth/ & chin done on April 15, she is still running a low grade fever, has 20% swelling left in upper face, mouth, and chin, and has not gone back to school full time yet. She is 5' tall and has lost 12 lbs, down to 83, eating hurts, she is not chewing well yet (no side to side) and our OS told her to start living her normal life as much as possible (try telling that to a teenage girl that looks like a chipmunk and see how well that goes over!) She did more swelling than expected while in the hospital (one night ICU and then 4 nights on the floor). She has come along way, BUT are we ok ? I am not as worried as I was last week about her, but......?
Guest guest
I had my surgery 6 days after your daughter and am not allowed to chew anything for another 2 months via my OS. I still have 25% swelling as well. My life is nowhere near normal when it comes to the sensations in my face and jaw function. I think it may take a few months before things can 'go back to normal' perse. I think you should give it a few more weeks before you should really worry. Or you could always ask your OS on his opinion. Hope she is healing well! > My 13 y/o daughter had upper/lower/palat/4 wisdom teeth/ & chin done > on April 15, she is still running a low grade fever, has 20% > swelling left in upper face, mouth, and chin, and has not gone back > to school full time yet. Guest guest
I'm no doc, but if yours aren't worried, then I wouldn't be either, hard as that is for the youngster. Do all the stuff they tell you -- water, sleeping elevated, a humidifier if it helps -- you might even try manual lymph drainage massage, if the surgeon has no objections. Some folks just have more swelling than others, and sometimes it just lasts longer. Be sure your surgeon has ruled out infections, and that he knows about the pain. But think how long it takes bones and tissues to heal, too -- she had a lot of work done, as you all know.
