Guest guest
Hi Barb: Sound like you had a few fun trips also. We do have a time with our trips don't we? I was thinking of you Wednesday. I got a card from Rita , with a picture of her husband and her in the card. I called her Wednesday and talked about the three of us meeting somewhere for breakfast or lunch some Wednesday, but it would be when Harvey takes Fred fishing. That's on a Wednesday most of the time and I never know for sure if Fred will go , until that morning, so it would be like a last minute arrangement to go to lunch. Rita said that would be fine with her. So maybe next time he goes and your not in France we can all meet. Will let you know when. Hugs Vera Vera: As you know we live at the beach, so we have very few hot days, but of course, we have no air conditioning because we live at the beach. So, on very hot days (which we do have sometimes) we aimed the fan right at Ken and put wet towels on him. I think hot weather is very hard on SDS patients. Ken did not sweat in the heat although he sometimes did sweat when it wasn't even warm. The whole sweat mechanism was caput. Your Las Vegas jaunt sounded both fun and horrendous. You do have to have a sense of humor when your travel with an MSA patient, and you have to be very adaptable. After a certain point, all our trips were taken in the trailer which we packed full of supplies, especially Depends. Of course, I had a helper along or I couldn't have done it, but the surroundings were always familiar to Ken no matter where we were parked and that helped. The first time we went after I had a helper, I arranged for the two of them to stay in a motel while I stayed in the trailer with a friend and the dogs. Ken became disoriented and pounded on the walls at night yelling that he wanted to be saved because he was being held captive in a strange place. After that, we always had him stay with me in the trailer, and the helper stayed in a tent nearby. That worked very well. Good luck to you both on future trips. You are right, the window for traveling together is very short. ken and I always wanted to go to France together, but it didn't happen. I am going without him in October, and I recently found some cards he sent me from there before we were married, so I think his spirit will be with me. Give me a call and come down for a day if it gets too hot up there. Love, Barbara
